Thanks Leccy758, what you suggested I have already tried but gave it another go. The belt is too loose and does not grip, the motor turns freely. I tried looping the old belt round and this to did not grip. Its as though I am a tensioner missing. its driving me mad, it should be so simple.

Changing the belt on a D6392 dryer, got the belt around the drum OK but one of the rollers fell off next to the motor. Need help with how the belt feeds around the roller and motor. Also were the spring fits? I paid on one of these expert sites for an answer but got nothing, hope your site is...
