ok tried a couple more things. ran prewash with the water feed disconnected. solenoids seem to work ok, and i can just about blow through the water feed pipe when the valves are open. drain pump runs fine. small amount of discolouration on base plate from a drain tube that empties onto it. but...

Ok I emptied the cabinet before I tipped it over.....NO water came out... When i try to run the machine, its completely silent on all but prewash. :?

Thanks Zipper, i can tell you each time that i have laid the m/c down to work on it water HAS come out, (approx 2 pints ish) i had assumed this was from the separator arrangement in the m/c sidewall. the float switch seemed dry so i wasn't concerned. i'll look more carefully and get back to...
