Well, just yanked the motor out and you can safely say that the brushes are past their best... replacements ordered, so here's hoping they are the cause! Cheers, will report back when replaced.

Bumping this post. Same symptoms, my WD440 displays no error codes, but refuses to wash/spin/dry. Whatever programme you pick, it simply sits there with the relevant wash/spin light illuminated. The door locks but does not indicate this on the LED. On a wash cycle you hear it momentarily try...
