Im nervous please reassure me about my 1860s roof beams survey

Don't know what the design parameters were at the time of build but todays timbers are designed for snow loading of 75kg/m2 , changing from tiles to concrete can increase roof loading by 10 to 35kg so possibly roof is structurally OK at the moment but just hope global warming keeps the snow at...

Dittto, interesting to note that you have different boiler output options for CH and HW

Bolting a steel beam to another steel beam.

Or the bolts failed in shear due to the friction element of the design not coming into play? Perhaps sagged means dropped?

    Stopcock weeping

And if that does not work open the stopcock to fully open and see if that stops the drip. If that does not work then undo the top nut, slide the body up the spindle and then either wrap 6 turns of PTFE loosely around the spindle and then retighten the top nut forcing the PTFE down into the...

    Shock arrestor after stop tap

Why do you think a washer in your stop valve causes water hammer

Bolting a steel beam to another steel beam.

Will not the settling lead to cracking of the supported wall ?

    Steel column pad base questions

2m 4m or 8m its all the same really just the logistics of placing the beams a bit more involved , as long as its structurally sound and all the i's are dotted and tee's crossed its going to be a great project

    Steel column pad base questions

    Stevie out of interest 1.2 x 1.2 = 1.44m2 so 2nr = 2.9m2 which is less than 8 x 0.6. Similarly 0.9 x 1.2 x 2 = 2.2 which is less than 8 x 0.45 Since both calcs give a discrepancy factor of 1.6 am I missing something?

New stopcock turns but does not shut off water

Isolate with WC boundary box isolation valve, whip stopcock valve head/handle off and inspect

New stopcock turns but does not shut off water

Just put a large screw driver against the valve with the handle against your ear and you will hear any passing flow

    Central heating

Do you have TRVs and lockshields valves on your radiators? Re pump speed that all depends on how effective the pump in distributing the flows to all radiators and is particular to the system its serving, generally lower the better for a bit of energy saving but start on 1 and progress upwards...

Bodge fix to slow leaking radiator connection -better rad on or off and plumber mait? denso tape?

No need to completely drain the system, just depressurise it and shut valves at both ends of radiator. Then the bottom nut can be released and if possible (since you cannot drop the feed pipe down) lift the end the radiator up so the olive on the pipe is accessible and then wrap 5 turns of PTFE...

Bodge fix to slow leaking radiator connection -better rad on or off and plumber mait? denso tape?

Definition of not to high? Since the OP re pressurised I guess it's at least 1 bar and 1.5 bar when up to heat?

Bodge fix to slow leaking radiator connection -better rad on or off and plumber mait? denso tape?

If you haven't any plumbing skills it hard to give you any advice as Herts says keep topping up till Monday and accept/ deal with the spillage. Friday the kids will have gone and you can leave it alone?

Detached double garage - wall thickness

No disagreement there, easy enough to work out wind pressure/forces on external walls and resulting overturn in moments and then confirm any buttressing walls/piers provide adequate resistance

How to reset garage cable back into groove wheel?

Probably Probably more than a minute but I get your drift

Two sets of roof joists - new hatch opening

Well if your trimmers are adequate to take the loads to the outer joists and the joists are of sufficient strength to take the extra load then fine, anything is allowed if it's structurally verifiable

How to reset garage cable back into groove wheel?

Probably/possibly/definitely depending on what your plan of action is to remedy your problem. My advised method way back when was basically taking the tension off the wire by clamping onto the drive shaft with something and turning it backwards 1/2 a turn against the force of the spring, adjust...
