    Discovery V8i (3.9 EFi) - Overfuelling

Guys, Final (Hopefully) Progress Report After I'd Whipped out the Bypass Air Valve (Haynes Description) or the Idle Control Valve (LR Description) at the rear of the Plenum Chamber, (it was black as the ace of spades, all sooted up) and cleaning it with Carb Cleaner I have had no further...

    Discovery V8i (3.9 EFi) - Overfuelling

Guys, Progress Report Whipped out the Bypass Air Valve (Haynes Description) or the Idle Control Valve (LR Description) at the rear of the Plenum Chamber, and it was black as the ace of spades, all sooted up, and looked like it wasn't seating. I took off the whole assembly and checked the...

    Discovery V8i (3.9 EFi) - Overfuelling

ch427, Thanks for that, useful websites! The first one even had a guys with the same problem as me! I had a good read through Haynes, and, in addition to your own and Heyyouitsme's advice (vacuum sensor) I'm going to take a look at the By-Pass Air Valve at the rear of the plenum chamber...

    Discovery V8i (3.9 EFi) - Overfuelling

jonnyfishing. The next place to look seems to be the Coolant and the Vacuum Sensors, if they're not too pricey it might be beeter for me to but them and change them out one by one, than pay the garage to do it. But there should be some form of test spec for a sensor that can be performed...

    Discovery V8i (3.9 EFi) - Overfuelling

Heyyouitsme & ch427, Thanks for the replies. I stopped by my local Land Rover dealer yesterday, to be fair they were pretty good, and honest, and said their diagnostics were just the same as the specialist (they knew them well), and they'ed do just the same things, but start again from...

    Discovery V8i (3.9 EFi) - Overfuelling

This is a PS. The '4x4 specialist' diagnostic oddly showed that although overfuelling it was withing limits and pass an MOT, also that the overfuelling seemed to be in the lower rev range. Hope that helps

    Discovery V8i (3.9 EFi) - Overfuelling

Help! My Disco's V8 has turned into a fuel pump. It startered running lumpy at low revs, woudn't pick up from tick-over very well and started to stall now and again - it also had a slight misfire at around 2,000-2,500 revs. Its been to a 4x4 specialist and put on, what looked like to me...

V8 Discovery - Suddenly Running Lumpy & Changing Autobox

Jazee, Thanks for that tip. Sounds messy. I guess the sump pan will be obvious from underneath. I just didn't want to go undoing bolts and go-wheels came falling out. Cheers, Ian

V8 Discovery - Suddenly Running Lumpy & Changing Autobox

Davieboy, Thanks for the tip, about Brake Cleaner. I actually picked up you post after I'd had a though along the lines of "wouldn't carb cleaner be better" and bought a can of the Wynns stuff today Yes, it does have a dip stick, so I'll have a good look for the drain plug. Haynes says...

V8 Discovery - Suddenly Running Lumpy & Changing Autobox

Neo, Cheers for that. Not come across 'Brake Cleaner' is it similar to Meths i.e cleans and evaporates without any residue - got pints of that in the drinks cupboard. There's plenty of bolts on the bottom of the auto box that could be drain plugs, hopefully someone else might know...

V8 Discovery - Suddenly Running Lumpy & Changing Autobox

Hi, Last time I used this site, the help and assistance was blinding, so fingers crossed. 1) Lumpy running. Last week, after prolonged standing in stop-start traffic at the Blackwell Tunnel, my V8 Disco (3.9 EFi) started to cough and splutter on tick-over. With this being an Auto too, you...

Land Rover Discovery 3.9V8i - Stalling - Fuel Filter?

Djinn, Thanks for that, nice to know I'm not the only poor s*d who's had to deal with this, but didn't thinlo I was! I did a complete tune, changed plug leads, dizzy cap and rotor too, as well as setting the timing correctly, (the problem was ther before the tune). Only thing I didn't change...

Land Rover Discovery 3.9V8i - Stalling - Fuel Filter?

Tarquin, Thanks for that. The fuel filter is in-line just under the off-side wheel arch. Yes, the idea of chopping the flexi-tube and fitting a new union/flexi tube connector and making good with a shot bit of pipe and jubilee clips came to me down the pub last night. I just wasn't...

Land Rover Discovery 3.9V8i - Stalling - Fuel Filter?

Hi, My Disco has started to stall, not all the time, every now and again. All the plugs (not new), leads, dizzy cap and timing are fine. One of the potential problems is a 'choked fuel filter' according to Haynes. So, armed with a new filter, I took on the job - b@stad! Eventually got the...

'Popping' sound from Boiler when burning

Bottel-shaped? Oooo-errr! That doesn't sound like it. My aerator is a copper can with soldered spigots for the pipe connections, I haven't seen, or heard of, a brass one with plastic knurled screws and hex nuts. It sounds more like a gas fitting, possibly a valve. I'd get a little more...

'Popping' sound from Boiler when burning

Chris, I did say that I was dangerous and knew a little! But everything I said did work, even if I didn't use the correct terminology. It was definitely a sludged up aerator, and the pipe from the boiler to it, that was the reason that the system was sucking in air through the vent/expansion...

'Popping' sound from Boiler when burning

Moosehead, Ahh, I'm not a plumber, but one of those dangerous people that knows a little bit. The aerator (or a least my one) is about the size of a baked bean can and has the cold water (from the header tank) connected to it, as well as the hot water flow from the boiler (in on the cold water...

'Popping' sound from Boiler when burning

Gaz, I can't remember what I used, but I followed the instructions exactly to the day on the maximum time to leave the de-scaler in (2-3 weeks I think), and I didn't scrimp on the stuff either. I used a couple of containers of descaler (3-4 litres) which was the right amount for the system...
