Wireless Alarm - Texecom or Scantronic, or Other?

Blimey, its one thing to find an installer that actually bothers to use the surveying tools (I'm a Scantronic installer and DO use the correct instrument) but if I was confronted by a clearly cut'n'pasted request for a week long, logging survey as part of a free quote, I'd be quietly walking away!

Whole house surge protectors not available in UK?

Sorry to bump an old topic, but this is very interesting. Just come back from a remoteish campsite where every single MOV has been blown sky high, and every HAGER RCBO is now U/S thanks to what must have been a surge. There were actually no campers there at the time, so virtually no load other...

    RCD just wont hold!

Ah, I see, so it was the HF bits leaking to earth by capacitance as soon as the flex joined on to some T+E... That explains a lot - thanks again!

Hey it's a fused spur question

Yes, never a bad idea to have a loft light so don't feel too bad... Never too late to add one mind, I am adding the first loft light in over 400 years to a property tomorrow!!

Hey it's a fused spur question

Well, sounds pretty good so far Dave - you seem to already have a good idea what you are doing. Its also one of the few things you are 'allowed' to do in terms of additions under Part P. So I am guessing you know how to do the actual wiring. Sorry if this sounds stupid but Im just checking...

    RCD just wont hold!

Thanks thats all useful, having thought about it I too realised inrush must be a large part of the Henry causing trips. Its fairly new so I had no immediate reason to suspect a fault. Only the one fridge freezer on the entire circuit - all other 'white' appliances on another DB entirely in...

    RCD just wont hold!

Yep, fair enough, I too have found 'borrowed' neutrals, once found the upstairs sockets feeding the kitchen lights (not sure what happened to the original, but all 'correctly' wired in uninsulated conduit singles :( But its the first thing I checked for - certainly not a factor here...

    RCD just wont hold!

All done properly @ 500v - result, at least 200 megs between all legs! L, N, E all 0.06ohm ring continutity, etc... No other work carried out between the test and installation. I am satisfied the wiring is OK (but will recheck now as everything else has been exhausted). Thing is, the fault...

    RCD just wont hold!

Neutrals are all ok - have checked for *all* usual problems! The more I think about it, the more it has to be a faulty RCD, as there are very few ways that a fault could be spread over 3 ring mains. Although, its an MK RCD, just wondering if N-E fault would not actually trip the device until...

    RCD just wont hold!

Not a bad idea, but the henry has a sealed plug. Very odd that it trips it instantly on any of the circuits though, when they dont seem to mind (otherwise) being loaded. Maybe this time it is a faulty RCD rather than a silly mistake...! Thanks for your help! Edit: That said (about...

    RCD just wont hold!

That would be the classic solution - but it doesnt appear to affect it. It is possible to have everything plugged in to all the circuits and not trip, until some random time, when it suddenly does. So, you switch the circuits off. Then you switch them on one by one - but the trip then blows...

    RCD just wont hold!

Just what I was told to do I guess - not a problem to move as it a modular board. Actually, slight edit, I dont believe it was tripping when only the cooker was on. Thing is I understand about lots of small leakages adding up, but it appears to be almost the reverse happening?

    RCD just wont hold!

Hi all, Installed a new fuse board today, following a full inspection in which all was clear (no insulation problems, rings all OK, etc...). Its a 100ma / 30ma split load and there are no probs with the 100ma side of things. And just to be sure, the 30ma is wired in parallel not series -...
