Does polystyrene flooring insulation react with dpm?

Hi all, about to put flooring insulation into finished extension below the floor. Was going to put a length along the edges of the dpm before putting a timber frame in to support the flooring above. So insulation is sandwiched between dpm and wood. Will there be a reaction? Heard there could be...

    Insulation/vapour barrier?

Assume a dpm would be as good. If it was missed would it all end badly?

    Insulation/vapour barrier?

Hi all, roof is on our porch and have installed polystyrene insulation from Wickes in between the rafters, with some space for wiring as it shouldn't touch the wires and 40mm from roofing felt and barrier. Was wondering if there should be a barrier between the plasterboard and insulation? Can it...

Simple job, but how to start? Leaking tap

Hi all, kitchen tap is leaking, its a single spout washer-less one. I get the idea that something needs to be removed, normally on the handles. But the handles have no cap and look like they push onto the side of the spout base, tried a pull but there is no movement. The spout rotates and there...

Vaulted roof/open ceiling for porch double pitched roof

Seen the ridge beam sitting on both inner and outer skins, with it forming some protection for the outer skin from rain. With it sitting on wood on the inner skin, is there enough strength or should restraints (metal straps to skin) be used? Just seems odd with it sitting at the top of the...

Vaulted roof/open ceiling for porch double pitched roof

Getting closer to starting, would sliding shoes be needed to attach rafters to the inside skin of wall? So for attaching ridge beam to house rafters attached to house then ridge beam screwed to them. For ridge beam to gable end of porch have a slot for it to attach and use wooden packers to...

Vaulted roof/open ceiling for porch double pitched roof

There have been occassions when making it up the stairs after a night out seemed impossible. But the porch is 2.1m wide 1.4m deep, have read that even on this size that purlins can reduce stress on outside walls. When attaching the ridge beam to house wall can joist hangers of sort be...

Vaulted roof/open ceiling for porch double pitched roof

Would purlins be required? When putting the ridge beam in I assume it doesn't just sit on the top but a block down or so butted up against and mortered in? Cheers

Vaulted roof/open ceiling for porch double pitched roof

Hi all, Planning to do an open ceiling/vaulted but concerned on how it should tie in with the porch gable end and house exterior wall for example if beams should pass through the blockwork to support the trusses and avoid walls being pushed out. Have read that the heighest I can put the...

    Help advice needed

Yes will be a single level porch 3m in height. I did contact plasmor when looking into the blocks suitable for rendering and they said 7N, plus below dpc. Since the mess up been looking at their spec sheets and it says 3.6N and 7N are suitable for walls below dpc. So hopefully all is good, but...
