    Howden cabinet adjuster broken

One of the adjusters on my Howdens wall cabinet has become disconnected from the thread. Is there anything that can be done - it appears to be permanently fixed to the frame.

No heat ! Grant boiler low pressure - will not fire

Thanks. If I turn the water off at the stopcock, can I just remove this valve and pick a new one up at a plumbers merchant?

No heat ! Grant boiler low pressure - will not fire

we're in a hard water area - so is that likely cause? Is the only fix to change it?

No heat ! Grant boiler low pressure - will not fire

If I disconnect the hose (which I now understand is the inlet) and open the tap - nothing happens.

No heat ! Grant boiler low pressure - will not fire

I have a Grant Vortex Oil boiler that will not fire, so we have no heating or hot water at the moment. The Low Pressure light comes on, so I have turned both black taps on but nothing happens (I was expecting the sound of rushing water). This is what I have done so far: I disconnected the fill...

Attaching ply to concrete floor for rubber tiles

I was wondering that too. Would I need to get the old vinyl up first (They're very fixed).

Attaching ply to concrete floor for rubber tiles

I have a small utility room and plan to tile with rubber floor tiles (the knobbly ones). The floor is concrete but is not beautifully smooth, as has had 1960s lino tiles stuck to it. Was thinking of using 6mm marine ply to level it and then the rubber tiles glued to that. If that's a sensible...

What on earth is that ?

I think that the outlet into the manhole has been blocked, but as I need a plumber to re-route pipes I will get them to check. I'm hoping that they can lower the outlet to floor level. I'll put a paving slab over it in the meantime. It's going to have the washing machine over it eventually.

Skimming/plastering/boarding this wall - might try and do it myself

Have just watched his beginners video and quite inspired to have a go. Is there a difference with skimming to first/second coat ?

Skimming/plastering/boarding this wall - might try and do it myself

This is the back wall of the utility and there's very thin plaster over what looks like a rough render. I was thinking this would be a good place to practice plastering. 1. Should I chip off the old plaster? 2. Is it just a skim or a plaster and skim? (this question will show how little I know)...

What on earth is that ?

So presumably there's no hole underneath that. Thanks for the replies.

What on earth is that ?

I've just removed a bit of false floor in what was previously a shower and loo and found this. Obviously there a capped off waste pipe, but what's the concrete thing?

Sewerage treatment works - running in the evenings

We have a sewerage treatment works at the end of the garden and it hums away to itself. I've noticed that in the evenings my smart meter is showing around 2kwh of load and the works seems to be a bit louder at this time. I've turned every light/appliance off in the house and the load still...

    How to cut brick pavers

Hi all, I have a path in the garden made of these grey pavers and I want to put another in to match. I think that's easy for the straight lines, but where there's a significant bend the last person managed to cut the slivers of the pavers rather neatly. How would I go about doing the same? I'd...

Two hot water cylinders - probably daft question

But are they both immersions? and does the boiler fill them both up?

Ideal Standard - replacing the cistern bits

The fill on my Ideal Standard cistern is very slow and I think that I need to replace the diaphragm which is looking old and crusty. But I can't seem to find the equivalent online - all the ones I see have a white peg in the middle. Any ideas what to search for or would I just be better off...

Two hot water cylinders - probably daft question

I have moved in to a house that has oil fired central heating. One side of the house was used as a granny annexe and I think this might be why I have this situation. The oil boiler is in a shed attached to the back of the house and next to it is an 'unvented indirect cylinder'. This has a power...
