:D Just sorted the problem out. The loud bang was the drum bashing into the side of the machine. It was enough to push the plastic brush holder in towards the commutator causing the new brush to push back past its resting position and jam in the holder. Couldn't free it so had to fit another...

Hi. The machine stopped working so I replaced the brushes on the motor and it worked perfectly. Yesterday there was a loud bang - I think the drum moved violently and caused a small dent in the side of the machine. It now fills and empties ok and clicks through the cycle but the drum only moves...
