    Very fine hairline cracks

I stripped all the old wallpaper from my walls mainly with a steamer, as expected after skimming the origin fine cracks re-appeared. I've seen some suggestions about opening them up and filling them but there are too many to do that to them all. Some suggestions about using decorators caulk but...

    Cold bath tap

Thanks.... I have had it with the same flow, cold water off and getting plenty of hot before, now the flow feels the same but doesn't stay hot for long.... As far as I'm aware they're not thermostatic..... there's nothing on them to suggest it.... but I'll give a plumber a go anyway. Thanks again

    Cold bath tap

Ok... I live about 500 miles away from my mother, she has 3 star cover from British Gas, which I life having as my mother is a bit vulnerable so prepared to pay extra if it means whoever comes out to fix it for her will get it fixed or die trying. Hot water comes out of all taps at a good...

    Liquid DPM on cement

OK so I finally got around to doing this. There were some wooden battons at the base of the walls so I took them off so I could come up the wall a bit. Kept it simple. 3mm of Arditex NA first top with the liquid dpm, coming up the wall a couple of inches, before a final topping of the...

    Barrier Mortar

Going to try this additive. A lot of the ones I found were between £40-80 which were ready mixed and seemed a good solution but I think this will do just as good. http://www.selcobw.com/sealocrete-sealoproof-2-5-ltr

    Barrier Mortar

I have a ground floor kitchen with a cement floor that I'm going to put a screed over and apply a liquid dpm too. There are some gaps between the cement and the wall that I don't want the screed to fill and some are quite deep. I'm trying to find a good barrier mortar to fill them with...

Damp on single brick interior wall

I've been doing a bit of work on my house and last night I removed all the old wallpaper in my living room. However on one wall I've noticed quite a bit of damp. This is an interior wall that supports the stair case on the other side. Below the staircase is a cavity that is used as storage...

Stripping paint from Waddle and Daub ceiling plaster

I did think about overboarding, I also want to install led spotlights. Plan A was work out where all the joists were and cut away only the plaster from those points so I could thread the wires through then get it skimmed. Probably a bit of a bodge

Stripping paint from Waddle and Daub ceiling plaster

yup, lathe and plaster. I tried direct steam and also closing the windows and doors then letting steam build up to see i it would moisten the plaster behind the paint. I might try a few treatments of this again before having another go.

Stripping paint from Waddle and Daub ceiling plaster

House is 1930, the paint is a bit patchy, some parts really tough and sound, other parts quite flaky but really spotty where it's flaky and sound. One area about 5 square meters it's pretty sound, but the rest is flaky parts between 1cm to 3cm big and peppered all over the place about 1-2cm...

Stripping paint from Waddle and Daub ceiling plaster

For the last 3 night I've come home from work and spent 4 hours stripping paint from my plastered ceiling so I can get it reskimmed. So far I've removed about 3m square, although there is approx another 2m square that looks flakey enough that it shouldn't be too much trouble, but the majority...

    New Mains Supply Pipe.

From what I can gather they will only replace what's there's and connect the pipe that my plumber will make to their external stop cock. I'm thinking of just digging the trench and then getting a plumber that has their own Diamond Core Drill to do the rest.

    New Mains Supply Pipe.

This screwball idea of mine has disaster written all over it. I ripped out my kitchen with the plan of tackling the floor, DPM'ing it and fitting tiles and a new kitchen. However after ripping the kitchen out I found it had a lead supply pipe. After reading the numerous websites that...
