    Toilet Seat Issue!!

Mine is wobbling from the start - I think they're badly designed. Or maybe it's my own fault for buying cheap!

Yes, those were the ones - secret buttons masquerading as end-caps!

    Toilet Seat Issue!!

I've done it! There's a chrome circle on the outside of each hinge. You press them in, and it releases the seat from the "sticky-up bits" so I can now remove the covers and access the screws. It *was* a bit cryptic. Thanks xxx (Gonna give it all a good clean now, btw!)

    Toilet Seat Issue!!

I never thought I'd upload photos like this anywhere... Yuk!!! I remember an Ikea toilet seat we had - you had to attach these little sticky-up bits to the pan, and then lower the seat onto the 'sticks' until it clicked. If this is the same thing, mightn't grabbing the seat and pulling it up...

    Toilet Seat Issue!!

Hiya, I need to replace a toilet seat. Normally I'd do it by unscrewing the nylon thumb-nuts underneath. However, this toilet-seat was fitted by a bathroom-fitter. Instead of a nylon nut, it has a thick, perfectly smooth black rubber lump/ring. Like a big, fat rounded washer. I can't get a...

Decorator fitted the wrong coving - what should I do?

Sorry, I know you're 100% right, but it's a different story when there's two big blokes in your house (or one bawling down the phone at you at work, with no warning). I'm 5 feet tall and I'm pretty timid - I'm also living a 3 hour drive from my friends and family, so I don't really have a...

Decorator fitted the wrong coving - what should I do?

Hi xxx, Just to confirm what we discussed earlier - I understand this to be an honest mistake/misunderstanding and we are not refusing to pay you (at all). I apologise if the tone of my email seemed a little abrupt. We are just hoping to agree a compromise in order to obtain the...

Decorator fitted the wrong coving - what should I do?

I told him I just wanted the correct coving in the correct room and I didn't mind how we acheived that. I'm not refusing to pay, I'm just not paying for something that's incorrect, and I want to compromise in order to get what I ordered.

Decorator fitted the wrong coving - what should I do?

OMG - just had a screaming argument with the decorator over the phone at work. Would never have picked up if I'd known it was him. He shouted and said he felt deceived and that he cannot believe I'm going down this route and that we must've never had any intention of paying him. He didn't deny...

Decorator fitted the wrong coving - what should I do?

By the time I noticed, they'd finished - they only had about half a foot left to put on, and they refused to stop or fix it.

Decorator fitted the wrong coving - what should I do?

I hope so - I know it's the right thing to ask for, but I'm not looking forward to seeing them in my house again. If they were as nice as they were pretending to be, they'd have fixed the problem when I asked them to (at the time) instead of having a go.

Decorator fitted the wrong coving - what should I do?

I replied with this today. My boss (who is VERY scary!) wrote it for me: "Dear Mr xxxx, In response to your email below and attached invoice, we have sought further advice on this matter and regrettably do not feel that the job has been satisfactorily completed to warrant the process of...

Decorator fitted the wrong coving - what should I do?

The decorator tried to justify it by saying he'd never seen the living room, that the quote said 127mm, and that nobody makes 100mm coving. None of these things were true, and when they proved it to him, they just said "Oh well, it's too late now." I was pretty upset so I just stormed off. :-(

Decorator fitted the wrong coving - what should I do?

There are 3 other rooms with 100mm coving. The rest of the rooms haven't been renovated yet - they're just bare plaster and no coving. One of the rooms with 100mm is the living room, which is joined to the dining room (in question) - it's been knocked through, so the size difference is obvious...

Decorator fitted the wrong coving - what should I do?

I didn't see the coving at all when they first arrived. I just made a drink, had a chat (not about the coving width!), and then went and sat in a different room. I didn't see it until later (when it was too late). I REALLY wish I'd just hung around a bit longer at the beginning and checked. I...
