Large tiles weight vs small tiles

Same tile thickness and material of course, just the surface area changes. I was just working with large tiles and supported them properly when I was thinking about all this.

Large tiles weight vs small tiles

A large tile freshly stuck on the wall is going to slide down whereas a small tile will stay in place. Obviously this is to do with the weight but when you think about it, the coverage of adhesive per unit area on both tiles is the same. So both the big and small tiles should behave the same way...

    Door handle with minimal projection

Excellent. Just what I need. Looks like I don't need DIY help but how to search on Google :( I tried small knobs, small door handles, discrete door handles then flush door handles and gave up!

    Door handle with minimal projection

I've got an internal door in my corridor and I keep hitting my hand against the door handle. Today I just hit myself hard and drew blood and had enough. Is there a door handle I could fit that would barely project out? I still need to shut the door though I don't need to lock it. Unfortunately...

Solar PV - how much free electricity am I getting

I wish. All I get is daily kWh generated, over the last 30 days and total for the lifetime of the panels.

Solar PV - how much free electricity am I getting

What will the inverter show me? I've never paid too much attention to it but as far as I know, it's just a large metal box with no display. In fact, I'm assuming the inverter is housed there. I've found out since that my meter display shows rEd which means reverse energy detected, at least...

Solar PV - how much free electricity am I getting

The only thing i have on the display is the reading, i.e. a set of numbers. Could you share a link to the manual?

Solar PV - how much free electricity am I getting

Outfox for electricity provider. No smart meter. It's a small white box, written Property of eOn and Type 5235A. Made by Londis + Gyr. No idea about the panels, inverter is in the loft.

Solar PV - how much free electricity am I getting

I have solar panels installed by A Shade Greener on my roof. Anything I don't use is exported. How do I find out whether I am getting the free electricity at any one time or if I am importing from the grid? I have a digital electricity meter with a red light. Was told it's supposed to go green...

A basic metric for clear pricing from energy suppliers

I'd like to see a kWh figure being quoted similar to the APR that finance companies have to use. What you get now is the raw kWh. This changes depending on maybe time of the day, location as someone mentioned, first units may be on higher rate, then add standing charges, etc. A kWh figure that...

A basic metric for clear pricing from energy suppliers

Exactly. You shouldn't have to go to this extent. It would be like taking your scale and calculator to Tesco to compare the price of meat per kg. They purposefully don't make their prices transparent and no one, no charity, no MP and least of all, no watchdog, seem interested in a clear price...

A basic metric for clear pricing from energy suppliers

I tried comparing prices from suppliers many years ago. It was impossible and I assume worse now. This is because they have different tiers and structures for pricing. For instance the first X units will be at £y rate, the next ones at a different price, whereas another supplier will price it...

A basic metric for clear pricing from energy suppliers

Energy price has been a hot topic for a while now. Gov, MPs, charities are all talking about it but what metric are we all using, especially OFGEM? An energy bill for a typical household! I think that's rubbish and meaningless. Are households labelled typical or atypical? Some people even get...

    Front fence and enforcement notice

In the end I went with this option. I asked the council if I could re-erect it according to the requirements of PD, just to be sure since they wanted the whole fence down and they asked to apply for a cert of lawful dev, which I did and received. I was quite confident that the council would...

    Google paying for news

Google is going to be forced to pay for news and this is already happening in Australia. As far as I know, Google displays news snippets in their news search results, not the full news articles. This sends users to these news outlets which is good for them. So why are publishers complaining...

How to extend a ring circuit

I've got a single socket which I'd like to replace with 3 double sockets. How can I connect the new cables to the old to extend the ring circuit? I've read that using a junction box is considered as a spur, so I'd only be able to have a single double socket. What about using 30A choc blocks? I...

    Front fence and enforcement notice

No, the issue was always about the height of the fence.

    Front fence and enforcement notice

They've inspected the fence on the day of the deadline, that's how keen they are. So they know it's PD.

    Front fence and enforcement notice

What would they gain by doing this though - these empty threats? It's not like a debt that needs paying so they would get their money. The fence is already pd now. They could just say/admit that as the fence is pd, they won't take it further and save their time.

    Front fence and enforcement notice

The council wastes money all the time. I have no idea of costs but it's just a fence, nothing too complicated. The council could always justify this by saying that the enforcement notice had not been complied with, etc... I've got my options now and need to figure out the best way to proceed...
