Unvented cylinder - advised it may explode

Thanks everyone. Appreciate all your help and expertise. The cylinder is magnetic, therefore steel, as you stated. The 'corrosion' however, appears to me to be primarily a build-up of deposits on the outside, as opposed to rust. I can chip it off with my fingernail. I can't see where the...

Unvented cylinder - advised it may explode

Thanks. Appreciate the feedback. It has been playing on my mind what I 'signed' on his phone. He just said to keep the system all switched off in case it exploded, and when I said I wasn't sure I could do that, he said well, you'll have to sign something to say I advised you to. I didn't think...

Unvented cylinder - advised it may explode

Thanks. Why do you think it needs replacing? There is the corrosion-like area and probably a very slow leak but the brown material is on the outer surface. Looks like the grey paint is bubbling a little - (top-left of the brown part) - does that mean the whole cylinder would need to go?

Unvented cylinder - advised it may explode

The brown stuff clearly looks like it's caused by leakage, but it's been like that for years and it's dry to the touch.

Unvented cylinder - advised it may explode

Hi - wonder if someone can give me an opinion. I am undecided whether I should pay thousands for a repair, or whether I'm just being scammed. In short - I have a solar-powered hot water system (hot solar fluid gets piped through the inside of an unvented water cylinder). When the water from the...

    Central heating won't turn off

Thankfully my system seems to be working normally again. I think the stuck valve theory is a good one - seems to have got unstuck again! Thanks to everyone who took the trouble to help. I'll post back if problems resurface but for now, it's all OK. Great forum.

    Central heating won't turn off

Yes. I have a meter and know a reasonable amount about electrics. Not too sure of working with mains voltages, but I know the principles. Do you have an idea? Sorry - I need to go out now, but will check back on here later/in the morning for any updates.

    Central heating won't turn off

Thanks. Just found another box (see edit to my last post). Looks electrical to me - no pipes.

    Central heating won't turn off

Many thanks once again. I don't see a second one. I've photographed the whole of the system (see below). The last two images show the tank and the solar panel system, which I don't think are relevant to the central heating system. There is a small box on the piping from the tank (centre of...

    Central heating won't turn off

I don't hear anything from the valve when I switch it on or off, except water flowing/stopping flowing. I think I can hear sound coming from the pump. Not sure where I would see the lever - there is a sort of grey slider button on the bottom (you can see it in the photo, through the loop of...

Thanks very much - sorry for being so vague! I have taken some photos which might help... Thermostat: Honeywell DT90E Controller: Horstmann ChannelPlus H37XL Series 2 Valve: Myson Power Extra We had not adjusted anything - the fault just occurred on its own. [/img]
