    Filling Deep Channel Quickly

I have a ~4cm deep channel with a plastic oval conduit in it. It runs about 1m up the wall. I normally would have mixed up some bonding plaster and done it but like an idiot I used some ready mix plaster I found at Wickes - after five days it hasn't set and so I just dug it all out (easily)...

    Leveling floorboards

The floor in one of my bedrooms has a significant hump to it. It can be seen in the centre of this photo. I considered cutting the floorboards along the wall but I suspect that the internal block wall to the right is actually just resting on them. Not quite sure how to proceed.

Rebuilding patio step and damp proof course

I had to remove the step down from the house to the patio because it was breaching the damp proof course and causing all the end of the joists at the back of the house to become rotten. Now I am looking to rebuild it and tidy the whole area up. I have glanced at the solutions here...

    Filling old vent hole

Whilst renovating my kitchen I exposed an old vent hole that had been stuffed badly with polystyrene packaging and the render has been patched over outside. It is roughly four inches round by eight inches deep. I considered either sand and cement; or maybe expanding foam. Not sure what is...

    Leaking plastic pipe connection

I just ran the heating up to temp and now turned it off just to check. I have twisted them all, which wasn't the case with the original work.

    Leaking plastic pipe connection

There were inserts in all the plastic pipes I checked. The quality of the cut on the leaking part was pretty bad though. Not sure if that contributed or not. I have hopefully sorted it all now. Just need to decide how long to leave it before I am confident to put the plaster board over it. I...

    Leaking plastic pipe connection

This is what I am wondering and thinking of doing. Just seems a mess to my untrained eye. I was assuming JG Speedfit but wanted to be sure. You can see what it says here but it isn't very informative.

    Leaking plastic pipe connection

I am having an issue with a leak in the area highlighted in red on my central heating system. It was installed 18months ago (from above) and a few days after I noticed a reasonable leak from that connection, got the plumber back in and it seemed sorted. Pulled the kitchen ceiling down to...

    Plastering over wooden beam

In my dining room there is a wooden beam which the upstairs joists sit on. In plenty of places the plaster as fallen away from this beam. I was wondering what the best approach to filling it in is? As the plaster is about 2cm deep I did consider chipping back the plaster and screwing in some...

    Damp Patch Under Bedroom Window

I do plan to get that whole lower roof area sorted but I imagined if that was the issue here the water would be coming up rather than down form the cill. I am not sure if the cracks are causing this problem or the symptom of something else. Seemed like a lot of water got in to that area.

    Damp Patch Under Bedroom Window

The area has now dried out and left the wall further cracked and with a slight mineral residue. The water is getting in from the outside but I am not sure where or how best to approach it.

    Damp Patch Under Bedroom Window

Last night I noticed that a damp patch has appeared under the upstairs bedroom window. This was during the high winds and rain last night and I haven't seen that any damp there in the previous year of living here. The room was replastered about 10 months ago and I had started to notice a few...
