It is how they tend to do them - certainly on the new builds round here. The pipe is run through a duct so if ever needs replacing it can be pulled out and new one pushed through.

Wall is being removed and room extended so it has to be moved.

The join would have to be under the floor and as we are planning on having it tiled it would not be very accessible. Was unsure if you were allowed to bury joins.
