    Smart meter ?

The irrational refusal to have a smart meter will prevent many people. ;)

    Smart meter ?

Like any other energy company I've been with. As ever I seem to be building up credit, but its easy to change the direct debit amount, when the payment is taken, and request credit to be returned to you online.

    Smart meter ?

If only it wasn't always 30 years away...

    Smart meter ?

I hadn't really appreciated just how big the cost premium for electricty hedged by the supplier buying futures was until I investigated and moved onto the octopus tracker tarrif. I've considered the octopus agile time-of-day tariff, but without serious investment in battery storage I couldnt...

    Smart meter ?

I've found the savings made in the rest of the year have more than made up for the spikes in prices on octopus tracker. I don't have a battery setup and do fairly basic and minimal load shifting. I dont care about the short time the price is high if I've still come out on average better off...

    Hydrogen pilot abandoned

Hydrogen will leak out of spaces too small for any added fragrance chemical to get through.

    Hydrogen pilot abandoned

To be honest I've always thought the idea of burning hydrogen in boilers to heat peoples houses was a folly. What could possibly go wrong piping a highly flammable, explosive, and odorless gas, which leaks out of everything and embrittles metals, into peoples houses... On top of that...

Removing home surround sound system tips PLEASE!

Wireless speakers still need power to run, so if you don't use speaker cables you have to run power in some way to the speaker locations.

    Potential leak, getting ill

Are the floors old bare wooden floorboards? If so the dust could be many years worth of muck getting blown out from beneath the boards through the joints, especially if you have an open chimney which would exacerbate a draft coming up through the floor.

    Pressure puzzle

I stand corrected if that's the case.

    Pressure puzzle

You could just try turning the tap on very, very slowly to avoid the sudden rush of water which suddenly stops that causes water hammer.

    Pressure puzzle

Outside tap got a check valve in it (it should have)? If so possibly when you turned the tap on with the meter connected you got a bit of water hammer, and the pressure increase from the shock wave was captured by the check valve.

    Under Stairs Toilet

I put in an understairs loo a few years ago. This thread has some info from a couple of things I asked, and before and after pics.

Neighbours log burner flue in my loft.

Are you sure its not a gas flue from your house? I recal seeing shallow flues that are built into the wall for gas fires which then come out into a pipe in the loft then up to a ridge vent. There may have been a gas fire in the house at some point that could have been removed and the opening in...

Electric meter rEd display, does this mean all is OK?

Sounds like your current meter isn't recording how much energy is being sent back to the grid, only detecting the fact it is happening. A smart meter would measure the amount going back to the grid so you could be paid for the energy exported if you are on a tartiff that supports that.

Modern innovation in plumbing and gas

That the reduced flush has actually been counterproductive in reducing water use. There are so many leaking dual flush valves that more water is now wasted than if everyone had stuck to the old school syphon flush.

PAT testing system suggestions for 2000+ items

Thanks for that, all most helpful. We had been wondering about printing out our own labels on one of our big colour copiers. Also interesting it being faster to use keypad over a barcode. :)

PAT testing system suggestions for 2000+ items

I've just been chatting to the site maintenance guy at my workplace who is considering doing a PAT testing course so he can do the regular testing of all the equipment in my workplace. He's looking for suggestions on what tester/system people would recommend for the regular testing and auditing...

Valve for 32mm waste pipe - such a thing exist?

The thought is if it needs disconnecting at some point it would be nice not to deal with the contents of the verticle pipe running back down eveywhere. I believe a check valve is built into the top of the unit, but I'd quite like the ability to manualy shut the pipe off should I need to remove...

Valve for 32mm waste pipe - such a thing exist?

Seems somewhat suprising given the number of macerators that must be out there that no one makes a valve for standard size uk waste pipe. Must be a lot of macerators that will be more messy than necessary to service... At least it wasn't just me being an idiot for not finding one!
