Worcester Bosch 240 RSF - pump combatability?

Hi all, I've been having a recurring problem with my WB 240 RSF, she's a little long in the tooth now i know but other than an intermittent pump problem has been great. What happens is when the hot water tap is opened, the boiler starts, and very quickly a plumbers hammer type noise appears...

Hi all, Ive got to cut up around 10 slabs to match a taper in the garden, the stone cutting disk on my grinder is worn out so its needs replacing. Now, do i buy a diamond tipped cutter or go for the standard stone wheel? If i go diamond wheel, i was thinking of this one...

Attaching a gate post or post to a pre-fab garage

In hindsight when i cast the base for the garage i could have set in a post ready for it, but never thought! Is there any kind of post fixing that bolts to the floor? Im loathed to drill the garage, from what i gather im gonna have my work cut out keeping it dry as it is!

Attaching a gate post or post to a pre-fab garage

Hi all, My pre-fab is being put up in a couple of weeks time so im keen to get the bits and pieces together for a gate. The garage is on the right side of the house, with a walkway thats probably 900ish wide inbetween the house and the garage. I can attach the gate to the wall of the...

Fresh concrete pad - should it be covered up?

Hi all, Poured my slab at the weekend and all went well, levels and finish is good so im happy with that. Thing is, i didnt cover it up, it was a cool day all day with virtually no direct sunlight, took ages for the water to disappear. Misted it on the night time (saturday) while it...

levelling a freshly poured concrete base

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated! Im wondering if its worth hiring a bull float? Or am i gonna make a mess being as though ive never used one?! Still not sure on what to do where the DPM meets the shuttering with regards to levelling.. Do you guys tuck it up and/or cut it?

Underground soil pipe protection - new garage base

anymore for anymore? How about if i created several 'hoops' from re-bar and drove them into the ground following the soil pipe till it exits, hardcore upto it and over it where the fall allows. I figure a bit of DPM on the top to stop any seepage from the sand or concrete at the left hand...

Underground soil pipe protection - new garage base

the only issue is that i dont intend on casting a footing, i had intended to hardcore the trench (the ground has soft spots so want to ensure it doesnt move) and build up the middle with hard core leaving the same 'shape' as it is now, albeit 6" higher. That'll give me a 12" border of concrete...

Underground soil pipe protection - new garage base

Here is the offending trench: So a lintel over the top of both areas of the pipe is enough? Layed up on top of the hardcore base i presume?

Underground soil pipe protection - new garage base

Hi all, Ive got my garage base footings and floor dug out and ive exposed a 4" soil pipe that looks to be solely taking rainwater away from the house; i contemplated getting rid and re-jigging the guttering outlet to the rear of the house but it looks like it goes forward onto the drive and...

Which Wacker Plate or Compactor Plate to buy?

I've a similar question, though to do with hiring, so i guess we'll need the same spec irrespective of where it comes from. I need to wacker some mot type 1 down ready for concrete pad to be poured, so the options are: Light Vibrating Plates: Ideal for use in awkward and narrow areas...

Prefab garage base - DPM, MOT depth etc.. The answer?

Does it 'need' strip footings? Or are they just to provide a base for the block to shutter up to with the concrete? I.e if i dig down uniformly, maybe 6" bigger all round, get my hardcore down and compacted, then blinded with the sand, could i use some reclaimed scaffold planks as shuttering...
