    Back Boiler - Please Explain/Advise

Paul - thanks for the advise, it would appear that whomever overhauled the boiler also fitted a vent on the external lounge wall which does have the warning on it etc so I am happy that it is safe in that respect. I have no idea how to calcuate the inputs and this can wait for when the BG...

    Back Boiler - Please Explain/Advise

Agile - get yourself up North then!! There is a serious shortage, in the past three weeks I've rang around 8 plumbers, and all I want is a quote for installing a bath, its got to be an easy job because there was a bath there previously and previous owners removed into and installed a shower...

    Back Boiler - Please Explain/Advise

Breezer - read my initial post - it ain't a cylinder and has no insulation it is a small square tank - hence my confusion!!! Also the house did used to have a bath in it so I assume that whatever is installed is adequate to supply a full bathful of water - well if I ever get the bath installed...

    Back Boiler - Please Explain/Advise

Breezer - Ok now I'm confused! Yes I can understand the pressure and there is so far no evidence of a cold water tank in the loft, however, I can't understand the hot water thing, the tank in the cupboard is very small, yet I appear to have unlimited hot water all the time, however, I am...

    Back Boiler - Please Explain/Advise

Thanks guys, i reckon its probably not worth replacing just yet and I can live with the fire. Fortunately they did install a rad in the lounge so i rarely have the fire on anyway, so far i am happy with it and guess i will just have to wait for the bills to drop thru the door before judging...

Bab - so may not be as efficient as a combi system but they are more reliable? I can believe this having had horrendous problems with the 2 yr old combi system in our prevous house! Gaz - how do I check the make of the boiler? The make of the fire is Baxi Bermuda SP, there are no other...

hi, we have just moved into a house that is heated via a back boiler system. the previous owners spent £800 overhauling the system and it works fine. However, this is my first encounter with a back boiler and I have questions!! 1. How efficient are they and would it be beneficial for us...

    Stair Carpet Runners

Hi I currently have uncarpeted stairs, the wood is in good condition but I do like the comfot of carpet therefore my idea was to have a runner with chrome rods and recessed led lights on alternate stairs as a feature. However, there are two twists in the staircase and the guy who came round...

    Increasing Loft Insulation

Hi, we currently have approx 50mm of loft insulation of the usual fibreglasss material in the loft but would like to increase this and then board out the loft for storage. Obviously increasing to the 270mm means you can't board straight onto the joists so my question is can we lay thermawrap...

    Vaillant Combi Boiler Problems

Thanks Chris, I'm sure we've tried this in the past, I think its called warmstart or something, and it didn't seem to make much difference. I guess we are just cursed or something! We're moving house anyway but was just trying to get an idea if Vaillant were a good make or not as we may have...

    Vaillant Combi Boiler Problems

Thanks for you help guys. Engineer replaced gas control valve and now back to normal. He agrees that the water takes too long to get warm but states that this is due to boilers location (in an 'outbuilding' that has now been attached to the house) and the length of pipes etc!! I give up for now!

    Vaillant Combi Boiler Problems

Thanks Chris. I did check the meter just in case but everything looks okay and the lever for the supply is still on - it was working earlier today but by the evening it stopped. I have a corgi engineer coming tomorrow first thing, hopefully they will sort it. I will consider paying for a...

    Vaillant Combi Boiler Problems

Hi, we moved into a house last year which has a 2 (now almost 3) year old Vaillant Combi Boiler (think it is the TurboMax). The water takes an absolute age to get hot - anything upwards of five minutes and even then it is never 'scalding' enough to get pans soaked etc! I have had two corgi...
