Thanks for the reply :) I took a pic you can see here: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/rusbh 2 mushrooms, I guess 3 piece system is right, I can tug the rails out into the locked position. Looking at the ends it looks like it may have been cropped to fit, it's way under the 901...

The lock on a upvc window has disintegrated inside and it's well outside the guarantee so I'm looking at replacing it with a new gearbox and rails. I can't find any products matching the measurements of the one I've just pulled out of it though. The only markings on it say 9487 GR.3 901-1200...
