Thank you for your information and advice John. But I have a question mark over the chimney, as I have now seen a few damp patches on the top of the wall where the old fire backs onto. Shat are your thought and experience of this coursing the damp? Thanks

I could lift the laminate, but there is quarry tiles under that and under them is concrete. So wouldn't have though much to see/find.

The washing machine is in the utility, not kitchen. Is there still a possibility it could be washing machine even though its not near the hall way?.As wouldn't surprise me if that was not fitted properly. Thanks

Under laminate in hall is quarry tiles and Concrete in the cupboard. The wate pipe runs down from a cupbord in the upstairs box room and down I think, not sure where it gose from there. Possibily in the hall cupboard as directly above each other.(but I can't locate it there). Although the smell...
