    You could try nail varnish remover or paint brush cleaner (white spirit) or maybe white vinagar but do test to see if effects the paint first in an area out of sight first.

    Thanks again. are you doing anything on saturday (only joking). My plan of action is as I decorate each room to replace the sockets and switches as you know they stick out nearly 2 inches.
