It seems I can get longer and thicker coach screws than the ones that came with the radiator, so that seems like a good bet to me. I really would rather not move the radiator itself. The screws came with wall plugs, so I would imagine they take plasplugs. Never used that brand before though.

Thanks JobAndKnock! Sounds like very helpful advice. Unfortunately, it is a newel post on one of the mahogany handrails. Any suggestions? It is annoying. In the past someone did a right job on this part of the banister.

Here are some photos of the lead work around the area of the leak, including a close up of the suspect join. I can't see any cracks, but maybe I am missing something. One thing I haven't done is look at the join under the roof tile, which I suppose I should to too.
