Practical advice on adding a socket to ring main

Ah yes I hadn't factored that in! I'll take the sockets off and take a look where they are fed from and confirm it is indeed a ring main, I've got a few possible installation options now. Thanks for the tips and suggestions everyone. Thanks

Practical advice on adding a socket to ring main

Two singles isn't an option in this case as the socket wouldn't match and that would annoy me more than taking a chisel to the wall and putting a deeper back box in. It's good to know though in case I come across this situation again. Thanks

Practical advice on adding a socket to ring main

That all makes sense to me. I have flat screw less sockets so the ring main extension will in all likelihood work better for me as 4mm2 cable to create a spur will be very stiff and most probably bend the socket outward in the middle. My only question is if I am able to replace the cable going...

Practical advice on adding a socket to ring main

Your assumptions are correct the offset would be about half a socket to the left of the existing one and the second socket would be horizontal to the new raised socket. If I do decide to go down the ring main option can I run a new cable from the new socket to the next socket along to complete...

Practical advice on adding a socket to ring main

I want two doubles and from everything I've read you shouldn't spur from a spur.

Practical advice on adding a socket to ring main

I'll take a picture and annotate it when I get home. The sockets will be directly above possible off set slightly to the left. If you shouldn't hide the joints where is the best place to make the joint and have it accessible? As the walls are dot and dab glue permitting can't I just fish the...

Practical advice on adding a socket to ring main

Thanks for the responses everyone I'll try and respond in the order people posted. From what I can tell the socket is original to the house the property is 23 years old so I have no reason to think it's anything other than on the ring main. How would I confirm this? There is a socket on the...

Hi everyone, I would like to add two sockets to the ring main, specifically above an existing socket for a TV. I do not want to move the socket that is there I want to add two double sockets above it in the ring main. I understand the wiring but practically how do I extend the wiring from the...

    Smart Burglar Alarms

Hi all, I need to get a new alarm for my home, I have lots of smart tech in the house so my ideal alarm would be one that supported Apple Homekit for integration reasons but from looking around there don't seem to be any professional grade ones available and I'm not interested in the DIY app...

    Vaillant Ecotec 624 + Unistor tank + Tado =???????

I’ve decided to go with a Vessman system instead as it ticks all the boxes. It’s being installed in a couple of weeks.

    Vaillant Ecotec 624 + Unistor tank + Tado =???????

I like their central heating products and the build quality. I just didn’t think the control side of it would be such a minefield.

    Vaillant Ecotec 624 + Unistor tank + Tado =???????

Urgh that’s so annoying because the Vaillant system just isn’t up to scratch! Any idea what the difference is between the VR65 and the VR66?

    Vaillant Ecotec 624 + Unistor tank + Tado =???????

Hi all, I am going to have a new Vaillant system fitted in my house consisting of; Ecotec 624 system boiler 200L Unistor tank I currently have a Tado smart thermostat and 4 Tado TRV's that I would like to use on the new Vaillant system. My installer is trying to push the merits of the...

What connections do I need? Kitchen Tap

I had a feeling you would say that! There is a little redundant pipe work under there as there is a hot water feed for a washing machine which isn't used any more. The cold water comes off the meter at an odd angle which is why I think the original plumber has all those T's in and bent pipework...

What connections do I need? Kitchen Tap

I have labeled this up to try and answer your questions. As I already have isolation valves I assume all I need are the fittings in your link above?

What connections do I need? Kitchen Tap

The T shaped speed fittings connect to the copper pipes on the existing tap. My question is how I connect the new flexible hoses to that speed fitting which probably involves some sort of adapter. The new hoses are very long, is there any issues with having them gently looped? Thanks
