Insulating a wooden lean to utility room

Hi, I have a utility room that was built by the previous owners that I'd like to try and insulate. It is external to the house but attached to the house. It is built from a wooden frame, with felt then wooden cladding on the outside. There is a gap of about 2 inches between the felt and...

Radiators colder at bottom hot at top

Hi John, Thanks for the image of the pump. I had another look today before seeing this post and realised that the speed setting is accessible. It was on 2 out of 3. Is it wrong/bad to put it onto 3? I assume it's okay to just try it and see? I have checked all the TRVs and the valves...

Radiators colder at bottom hot at top

If anyone else can help with this problem it would make me a happier and warmer person. Could the issue also be because the pump isn't running fast enough? The house is 3 bedrooms with sizeable radiators in all rooms. I can't see the pump speed because it was installed up against the side of...

Radiators colder at bottom hot at top

Hi John, Thanks for the reply. The bottom of the radiator is the same temp as the return pipe. The house isn't warm enough with this pattern. I used No Nonsense clearn, but I am planning on using Sentinal for a 2nd flush. The cleaner was added exactly 1 month ago today. The water is...

Radiators colder at bottom hot at top

Hi, I know this has been asked many times before but my question might be slightly different. Boiler was installed a year ago and central heating cleaner added then. I bought the house and this winter the radiators were cold at the bottom. So, drained the system, flushed the radiators out...

    Plastering preparation advice

I'm a little confused. I understand what you are saying with the curved trowel etc. but I don't see how it will hide the join between the patched area and the existing wall. Are you talking about the technique used for dry lining where you just fill the joints of the plaster board, or are you...

    Plastering preparation advice

Hi, My sister has asked me to do a little plastering. The area is about 2 foot by 1 foot. It already has plasterboard nailed/screwed in by someone else. There is a 2-3mm gap that is as deep as the plasterboard all the way round. My question is do I need to fill the gap with anything first...

    Cracking plaster

Hi, The substrate was some form of base coat of plaster over the brick work. The day was a reasonably warm day and no heaters were used. The wall I was plastering on was sound. Perhaps the plaster mix was a little watery, but not massively. Thanks Marc

    Cracking plaster

Hi, Could anyone tell me why the last time I plastered I got some areas of cracking? I gave the wall a couple of 50:50 coats of PVA first, was this too weak a mix to stop the plaster going off too quickly, and causing cracking? Any ideas? Thanks Marc

    Plastering over Paint?

To plaster over paint you should make up a mix of 50:50 PVA Adhesive and Water, paint that over the paint, let that dry and then mix 75:25 PVA and water then paint that over the previous coat of PVA. This should prepare the wall for plastering. As for the lathe, you maybe able to get away...
