How/why is my light switch wired like this?

Just checked and the kitchen lights are on the same circuit as the rest of the house, only the appliances are on the new consumer unit. That said, the kitchen is an extension dating back around 30 years so the lighting electrics in there may well be newer than the rest of the house.

How/why is my light switch wired like this?

It's definitely not led, had a good look this morning. As for the consumer units, oh dear I think you would laugh or cry. The new one for the kitchen is fine, but the rest of the house is on an old black fuse box, one switch for everything.

How/why is my light switch wired like this?

Looks like I will be pricing up a rewire then Not something I had planned so hopefully I can afford it!

How/why is my light switch wired like this?

I haven't got all the plaster off, it's just a small entrance way that needed doing, wasn't planning on replastering the entire house. :-/

How/why is my light switch wired like this?

Any idea why both lives are connected to the L1?

How/why is my light switch wired like this?

Currently replastering and came across this while knocking the old plaster off. There are a number of things that strike me as being incorrect, but as a layman I don't really know, and the switch worked so what do I know? Rather than entering the back box both the feed cable and the light...

    Wiring Downlights

When I say I'm considering 4 lights purely for asthetics I'm not referring to the lighting given off but how the lights themselves will look fitted into the ceiling. Just comes down to personal choice really. 4 lights may look better than 2, but I think I will test this theory out with some...

    Wiring Downlights

By "the joist" I meant the one that the old fitting was attached to. I doubt there are any more though tbh. The first room is a tiny cloakroom, barely 2m². The second isn't much bigger. Definitely not 6-8 joists to contend with! That said, I can identify any obstructions in as messy fashion as...

    Wiring Downlights

    1. I've not completely made up my mind but either one on either side of the joist or one in each corner, ie two on either side of the joist. 2. Plasterboard the whole swiss cheese mess (y) 3. I actually had searched for maintenance free on the basis that I couldn't access it but I didn't...

    Wiring Downlights

Initially I was only aware of the second method as a friend did it like this and advised me to, but after reading up on it yesterday I thought the first method would be more suitable. I don't have access from above and will be plasterboarding over the existing damaged ceiling so I'd like to have...

    Wiring Downlights

Cheers :) So in both rooms the twin red is the switch cable? I'm beginning to understand little by little. I just expected 1 or 2 grey cables, not 3. edit: I did photograph the connections, btw. I'm not a complete idiot (only around 95% :D).

    Wiring Downlights

I'm wanting to install some downlights into a small WC and a laundry room. After removing the existing pendant I'm a bit perplexed by the current wiring. In this one I have 2 wires coming through the ceiling, one with L,N,E and one with L,L,E. Here I have 3 wires. One is L,L,E and the other...

    Backyard crazy golf idea

Haha  Nah, the good old industrial estate salvage. I used 2 boards in this hole out of 10 that I could fit in my car, and that still left a huge pile! Exactly! I'm not expecting it to last forever, but for just a few hours DIY and a few quid spent we'll definitely get our money's...

    Backyard crazy golf idea

Hi guys, just thought I would post again to say I've finished my first hole. Took me about 4 hours to put together and then a bit of painting. Apart from the green matting, which cost £6 per roll (1x2m) everything else was sourced for free, ie. pre-made wooden frames and chipboard which I found...

Your pessimism is duly noted. Unfortunately the two local crazy golf courses round here have closed. Besides, half the fun is in the journey! I'm determined to give it a go either way and I'll use whatever free materials I can to do it.

The 3mm hardboard will be laid on top of pallets. I don't think it would be possible to fall through. Basically, a few of these, maybe 3, providing a long rectangle base with hardboard fastened to it.
