They think the live and neutral on the incoming cable might have touched together, could have been a lot worse, fire etc. Drive’s all been dug up old cable cut and a new length of swa cable connected and brought in to the house.

That’s the replacement breaker, damage to it and case looks like it’s been caused during installation, no idea how, it’s definitely not melted/burning. All seems to be working fine though.

To update, installer has been out, checked for loose connections, tested the wiring and replaced the rcd. I noticed that under the original fault after tripping the MCB was warm/hot to the touch after the shower had been running. While the replacement remains cold, so seems like faulty breaker...

Newly installed Triton T80 8.5kW shower. The shower is tripping the MCB after about 5mins of use since it was installed. It’s on an 40A MCB which feels warm to the touch after it trips. Appears to be 6mm cable, the consumer unit is less than 18m away. No sign of water leaks, completely dry...
