Thanks everyone. It's a bit difficult to get good photos down there, so have decided to get someone out to look at it properly.

We had a wet patch of plaster. The wall wasn't wet behind so looked under the floorboards and found this. Does anyone know what the white growth is? Is it harmful and what should we do about it? Is it likely to be connected to the random wet patch?
