Water and damp coming through walls: can you suggest a solution

We live right on the coast with strong winds blowing heavy rain against the house. The house is built of cobbles of different sizes (jointed with lime mortar) and a 1950s extension of concrete bock and cement mortar. All the outside walls are wet dashed (small beach pebbles about 6mm mixed...

CH system boiling over into header tank. help please

How very dare you. My pump is not a racist... Seriously though, I think it was probably a bit of both....sticking pump and air locks from draining down. The house is quite old with downstairs internal walls 2' thick so the downstairs pipe work from 1 side of the house to the other...

CH system boiling over into header tank. help please

thanks for the responses guys. I bled all the rads until water came out. All the valves are open. The system is a simple system I think. We have an Unidare Jetmatic oil fired boiler downstairs (quite cheap through The Farmers guardian about 15 years ago) and little used because of the price...

    Partition wall.

No it's not. You need lights that meet specific specs for different regions of the bathroom. Go to B&Q's lighting dept and pick up a leaflet. It will tell you all you need to know. I have lights actually in the shower, but they are spec'ed up for it.

Advice please..Lime Mortar question for field wall rebuild.

Thanks all. To answer as many questions as possible: * We live on the coast of Cumbria and the field walls here are of smooth round beach stone/pebbles. Typically 2"-3" x 6"-8". * Natural England (who are part funding this) have specified Lime Mortar because that is the original construction...

    Partition wall.

Internal non load bearing wall: i'd use timber studding every time. In fact, I did the same thing in my own bedroom 8 years ago. Very large bedroom that we split into bedroom and large en-suite. All timber studded (3"x2" scant) from which I fitted a hand basin, a walk in shower clad in 10mm...

Advice please..Lime Mortar question for field wall rebuild.

Cheers mate. Thanks for that. Having done a bit more research I should have been a bit more specific with my question: should I use hydraulic 3.5 and mix it dry with sand (as you would with Portland cement) or Hydrated and make a wet putty to mix wet with sand? So far I am leaning towards...

    Removing kitchen wall cabinets

I often find that they can sometimes need a thump under the bottom corners to free them off from the wall brackets they are hanging on.. Easier than just pushing until they break free. Hope that helps.

Advice please..Lime Mortar question for field wall rebuild.

Hi there and hello, I am handy with most things and I have stone field wall to rebuild. The stone is smooth beach pebbles and the mortar has to be lime mortar rather than the usual dry stone field wall. The more I read about lime mortar the more confusing it becomes. I have about 90m (by...
