No flow in CH circuit, hot water fine

I have discovered that the labels on my CH expansion and refill pipes were the wrong way around. See amended diagram: Everything now makes much more sense. It is very clear that the problem is in the blue section of pipe. Possibly some blockage has come down though the refill...

No flow in CH circuit, hot water fine

@45yearsagasman Pretty sure, yes. The hot water does flush into the pipe to begin with but then stops. Also by pumping cold water into the system (though a radiator valve) and seeing which pipes at the Y-valve get cold I can trace which way the flow is being sent. The valve seems to be...

No flow in CH circuit, hot water fine

@jackthom - yes it has been on my mind that I should fix this as it looks like a clear problem. The header tank is full and refills itself properly. The pipe just goes straight down through the house. I guess I need to start by draining the system again and seeing if and water is coming down...

No flow in CH circuit, hot water fine

I have a gravity-fed CH and hot water system on a Y-plan. The boiler is working fine and the hot water is heating without a problem however I can't get water around the CH circuit at all. When we moved into this house neither the hot water nor the central heating were working. The hot...

Ideal Mexico Super CF55 fires for short time only

Have just had an update from my wife who I asked to check the central heating. Apparently that also does not work. I will look into the suggestions so far when I get home tonight. Thanks all for your help.

Ideal Mexico Super CF55 fires for short time only

Thanks, I will check this evening. No, I haven't. I assumed that because the boiler fires when the hot water system is first turned on, the pump must be pumping water down to it. The pump continues to make the same noise as the boiler cuts out so I thought it must still be pumping. I will...

Ideal Mexico Super CF55 fires for short time only

OK, expansion tank not the same thing as header tank, got it thanks. Reading about it now to educate myself. I'm not quite sure how to find or check that but I will look into it.

I don't get *hot* water out of the hot tap but I do get water. OK I will check the pipes and try the central heating.

Ideal Mexico Super CF55 fires for short time only

Right now, the themostat on the front of the boiler is set to "4", which the table printed on the boiler tells me means 71C or 160F. I have tried turning this right up to max (6 / 82C / 180F) to see if it makes a difference but it seems not to. The thermostat on the tank is set to 65C. Again...

Ideal Mexico Super CF55 fires for short time only

No the water is not getting hot, I have tried leaving it all on for 24 hours. I haven't got into the attic yet to check the header tank due to being out in the day / not wanting to disturb sleeping children in the evening / not having a ladder. Arrrg! I will get up there as soon as I can...
