One final question.. the boiler manufacturer has said that a wifi heating unit (such as Hive) can only be installed on the boiler if it is voltage free compatible. Is the hive (heat only) voltage free? Thanks again.

Hello everyone, I aim to replace the the st9100c with the Hive active heat single channel (no water). Tomorrow I will look at the wiring on the existing st9100c - any ideas what I should expect and do you think it should be a simple direct swap? N, L, 1, 2, 3, 4? blue, brown.. what colours...

Thank you very much. I'm not why that live wire is earth colour, though I presumed it wasn't actually an earth. My programmer has a wireless thermostat which I've located in a different room, so no wires to worry about then I presume. It will be redundant. I'll give that wiring a go later...

Thank you very much for your response. I've uploaded a few pics showing current programmer (honeywell), wiring in current programmer, and pic of boiler and tank. Hopefully these will help. My new hive device appears to require 6 wires, but my current honeywell programmer only has 4 wires going...

When installing the new unit, is it as simple as replacing the old unit with the new unit and rewiring? My old heating/hot water, wired, Honeywell programmer is located in a cupboard, in a different location from the boiler.

Ok - I'll not work live again!! Does the above quote not explain why the neutral wire was live? Because, as the writer said, I connected the live first, then the earth, then the neutral. (I noticed that the neutral was live before I connected it). Thanks, Gareth.

Thank-you for that information. It seems that I connected it fine then, except I should have connected the live lastly. I now understand why the neutral was live. The machine switches and appears to work fine. Thank-you.

Thanks for your reply. I did not test it for dead. I thought it was a simple case of connecting the three wires together. Is it potentially serious that I did not test this? Any other suggestions welcome.
