Help appreciated with lit fibre / google mesh network

Ok I’ll try that but it seems difficult, many people online saying that the Google Home app never really lets you make those changes and realistically you have to do a factory reset. I worked out how to get the subnet mask and gateway info so I think when I do the factory reset I can set it all...

Help appreciated with lit fibre / google mesh network

Hi there I had Lit Fibre (full fibre) installed recently; very impressive 100Mb symmetric upload / download However I do have one issue which is that I have a Google mesh network to distribute signal round the house and the two things are not quite compatible it seems. For reasons of cost and...

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

Update on this - installer agrees we likely need an expansion vessel, he's going to come back and fit one

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

Hi, sorry slow reply, didn't get the notification about your message thanks for replying, it's only five cast iron out of eighteen total, would you still say we need an expansion vessel? I've just looked and i can't see one on the installation

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

sorry slow reply, didn't get the notification about this message Yes, I've been through about eight two-week cycles of force out upstairs airlocks by turning off downstairs rads, bleed to remove air, system fine for a week, then start losing loft rads, then lose one first floor rad, then repeat...

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

Sorry slow reply, didn't get the notification about this message, but anyway thanks, I did raise the question about quantity of inhibitor on the phone but he was pretty confident it was just the balancing that was needed... I'll probably let him try the balancing on Friday and see if the problem...

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

Sorry slow reply, I didn't get the notification about this message Ok I don't think we have an expansion vessel, I'll check with the installer when he comes on Friday How would I identify the boiler safety valve?

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

Thanks Terry, there is indeed the magnetic filter, we are ok on that one.

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

Sorry I should update this to say I checked and there was indeed a magnetic filter. The installer is coming on Friday, he says it is likely the system just needs balancing, although I also plan to get him to empty the magnetic filter. Anything else I should ask him while he is here?

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

Ok great, I can check what was done, although if Ideal require a chemical flush then I reckon they would have done that to comply with the warranty conditions. I’m sure I can get a magnetic filter fitted, perhaps by other engineers. But would that be causing this problem? I’m sure you’re...

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

I thought it wasn’t gas because I tried to ignite it once but to be honest I can’t say in certainty I would have done that correctly. Not sure on the flushing, definitely not a power flush as I think that would have involved removing the radiators. Chemical flushing maybe, I’ll have to check...

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

It is sealed and pressurised. I top up the pressure after bleeding, if it needs it, otherwise I haven’t really had to. That’s what is baffling, if there are any leaks then maybe they’re really slow and I get to a bleeding cycle before I find I need to top up the pressure.

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

Pretty much, yes. It’s more than a few days, probably about ten days. It’s not all the upstairs rads affected, just a few and it varies which ones And I don’t think bleeding is enough, I need to force the air out of the pipes with the whole turning off of downstairs rads and running the...

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

Hi, I end up bleeding the radiators about every two weeks, in response to the problem of losing heat at one/two/three of the rads I mentioned above. Maybe on a typical cycle about five will have air, it varies between a short blast of air being bled out or a more protracted process with a lot...

Repeated airlocks in central heating system

Hi, I had some work done to our house recently, we added some lovely new cast iron radiators, we have eighteen radiators in total now. The work included a loft conversion with two radiators (one for the bedroom, one for the tiny bathroom). We keep losing heat to these two loft radiators and...

    Bleeding radiators - spluttering

I should also add that one time I tested the "air" and it didn't ignite in any way so I think it is air rather than corrosion gases

    Bleeding radiators - spluttering

We have a converted loft with two radiators (bedroom and bathroom). First floor has seven radiators, ground floor has nine radiators. It has been the first floor and loft floor with the issues - certain radiators not coming on (the two in the loft and one on the first floor), possibly with the...

    Bleeding radiators - spluttering

Hi, I have recently had some work done on our central heating system and am trying to get rid of the air introduced (which might be the subject of a longer post another time). When I read on the internet (including this forum's FAQs) about bleeding radiators, they always say wait for the...

    Shower tray perishing

Nothing harsher than Viakal. Good idea, I'll try ringing them and seeing what they say. Also waiting to hear from tray manufacturer.

    Shower tray perishing

Could do but it would be handy to know what had happened, I wouldn’t want more of these patches to appear after having plastic doctor out or whoever. Any ideas?
