Replace whole air-bleed valve in radiator

The top valve in one of the radiators in my flat is broken. I'm used to unscrew only the brass bit (which is a pain) and I've never seen it "inside" another bolt like in the picture below. Can I unscrew the whole hexagonal bolt and replace it with a new one without damaging the radiator?

    Replace 12V 50W MR16 halogen bulbs with 240V 5W GU10 LED

Sorry... I didn't mean to ignore your advice guys... Trust me... I've already seen those connectors, usually on fire rated Aurora fittings. They are too bulky and I would have to fight to make them fit in the ceiling... Is there anything smaller that I can use instead?

    Replace 12V 50W MR16 halogen bulbs with 240V 5W GU10 LED

I'd like to use a click connector... but they are just to bulky to fit in the space. It's the same reason why I had to use this kind of fittings rather than fire rated ones. At the end of the day all the wires fit in the terminals... Only thing I would do is to put some sort of crimp-on cap on...

Bathroom renovation nightmare (plenty of photos). HELP!

I insisted until we got a carpenter in to fix new batons to the old joist. The real problem is that most customers do not understand the difference between a shoddy job and one properly done. What you see is the end product. Before starting the renovation I asked to visit previous finished...

    Replace 12V 50W MR16 halogen bulbs with 240V 5W GU10 LED

With "fittings" do you mean the chrome metal support that goes in the cutout? (...sorry... I thought saying "lampholders" would include that too. I'm not native english speaker and I struggle with some more specific terminology...) If so, yes... I have new ones but they are not that different...

    Replace 12V 50W MR16 halogen bulbs with 240V 5W GU10 LED

As they say... A picture is worth a thousand words On the right the old lampholder (with transformer) that I plan to replace with the new one on the left...

    Replace 12V 50W MR16 halogen bulbs with 240V 5W GU10 LED

Just to clarify... You don't mean that I have to lay new wires, correct? It should be as simple as removing the transformers and connect the new GU10 lampholders instead. A simple swap... with no other modification... Or am I wrong?

Bathroom renovation nightmare (plenty of photos). HELP!

I fell like it would be nice for everyone who contributed to the thread and support my journey to know how it ended. Long story short... it was just too complicated to let the fitter go and find someone else. So... I carried on... We had further issues and delays (a drama when the bath didn't...

Fix this mess with a shower taps front plate

Thanks to everyone... In the end we "fixed" the issue by adding a thick layer of silicone. We used the same color of the grout (Mapei grout/silicone) and the end result is actually not that bad visually: it has a 45degree bevel which looks nicely finished. Without knowing about the original...

    Replace 12V 50W MR16 halogen bulbs with 240V 5W GU10 LED

I'd like to replace all the downlights in my living room with new LED lamps. At the moment I have 5 downlights under a single dimmer. Currently they use 12V Halogen MR16, each with its own transformer. I'd like to replace them with Mains LED GU10 (and get rid of the bulky transformers). I...

Fix this mess with a shower taps front plate

Unfortunately the plate is only few mm thick... and the point of contact between the brass and the plate is actually the rim that keeps the rubber seals which go around the valves in place on the plate. Any mistake there, and we loose the seal around the valves. Working on the brass could be an...

Fix this mess with a shower taps front plate

Yeah... I know... the advice was to let the fitter go. And I would have done it if I wasn't living in the property. I tried to get in touch with a few plumbers and tilers (with a good score on checkatrade). Unfortunately some were not willing to take over someone else job, others were not...

Fix this mess with a shower taps front plate

Unfortunately we are a little further down with the works. It's tiled and grouted... also the shower door is installed. They realised the mistake too late. Also, I'm honestly really worried that removing the tile would damage the tanking. Finally, the valves are fixed on a sheet of plywood...

Fix this mess with a shower taps front plate

The front plate is not just a piece of stainless steel with a couple of holes in it. It has also some extruded pieces at the back to accommodate the rubber seals and some engraves on the front. I agree 100% that a new thicker plate would look better... but I thought it would be hard to reproduce...

Fix this mess with a shower taps front plate

Cool! The reason why I wanted to chrome it is that I'd like it to look like a thicker, solid piece of metal, rather than two sheets sandwiched together. Can I get the same result with epoxy and by polishing? Also, in my head a stainless steel fabricator is someone who deals with large...

Fix this mess with a shower taps front plate

Hello everyone. I really hope someone can come up with a good idea to fix this ugly mistake. I recently had my bathroom refurbished and my fitter, among other mistakes (...long story...), also messed up with the installation of the shower taps. The result is that they stick out from the wall...

What's the purpose of paper that cover different types of plasterboards? Can it be removed?

Might sound as a silly question but there's a genuine reason for my question. My bathroom fitter, put on some moisture resistant plasterboard in the shower box. Then he applied a first coat of tanking membrane. Unfortunately he did a very poor job: he didn't push in the tape that goes into...

Bathroom renovation nightmare (plenty of photos). HELP!

Completely agree on the spacers... exactly what I thought. For sewer pipe, that is the consequence of the change of layout. I guess another tradesman would have simply told me that it couldn't be done rather than accommodating my requests even if impractical. The underfloor duct is the...

Bathroom renovation nightmare (plenty of photos). HELP!

To be fair, the toilet mount is going to be fixed: we are sliding a few small pieces of solid floorboards underneath, between the two joist and then add the timber between the floorboards and the timber stud. It was cut off in order to install the new soil pipe, but he's going to fix it. The...

Bathroom renovation nightmare (plenty of photos). HELP!

I thought this was the right forum to post to. May I ask you to give me some examples of what has been done particularly wrong? I just want to be able to speak to the plumber... I need to point out all the shoddy work to him.
