    Alternatives to Sarnafil roof covering

I am about to have a new flat roof fitted, approximately 40 sqr mtrs. The existing roof is asphalt, covered 18 months with felt. (a waste of money). I am now looking at either Alwitra or a one piece Firestone rubber. Can anybody make a recommendation for or against? Thanks. Mondial

    flushing system

Thanks for all your replies. I propose, as per your recommendations, to drain the system and refil with an inhibitor. To drain it, do I tie up the ballcock in the loft (small tank), connect a hose to the hall raditor and let it drain. Or do I drain it with the ballcock free so as to flush...

    flushing system

I had a blockage in my system recently and a local company drained the tank in the loft and put in two diffent chemicals. One from a tube and one liquid. They found the blockage and removed ti and all is now well. I have a bill for about £250 which is ok. Now, 6 weeks later, they want to come...

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I finaly called in an expert who found the system totally blocked in the "H" ? pipe. He cleaned this out, put in some form of solvent and it started up fine. Now he wants to flush the whole system in six weeks time. Expensive but it was bloody cold...

No, although it worsened immediately after. Previously, and one of the reasons we changed the noisy pump, was because we could have either the upstair radiators on, or by turning each on of those off individually we could have the downstairs ones on but if the water came on by the timer, then...

The pipe from the boiler to the pump is very hot, the pump is working fine and the inlet pipe to the three way valve is hot. The hot water is not getting from the three way valve to the tank for some reason, neither is it circulating round the system, although the outlet pipe from the valve to...

I confirm the thermostat is on maximum. All was ok up until a two or three weeks ago, when I turned the boiler thermostat up from 30 to 40 to increase the heat output from the radiators. That was fine initially but it has progressively become cooler and feeds less radiators. The water in the...

Only warm. definately not too hot to hold. Could it be the boiler thermostat and, if so, how easy is this to change?

My 15 year old boiler makes all the right noises, lights up on cue and produces luke warm water. All thermostats (boiler, water tank and room) are up to maximum but the hot water and the radiators don't get hot. Literally, just luke warm. I had a new pump fitted a few weeks ago, also a new...

    An Extension light

I have a rudimentary knowledge of electricity but that is all. I want to fit a second light in my kitchen, on the ceiling and only a few inches away from the existing light.. Which wires do i run from the existing ceiling rose? Both lights will operate from the one light switch. Thanks

    double glazing

Thanks for the advice. I have tried with paper, as suggested, and it is held firmly when windows are closed. And, yes they are conventional opening out windows. It appears to be the seal between the windows and the wall although it is odd that it has taken 18 months to materialise. thanks again.

    double glazing

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately then installer has gone bust. Surprise, surprise! with the windows two storey's up, over a shop unit, it is not esy to find someone who will go up a very tall ladder, they usually want scaffolding at a high price. Again, Thanks

    double glazing

In Septembr 2004 I had double glazing fited to a two storey flat on the first and second floors. At first all was well but recently it has become very noisy, howling in the wind like a manic set of bagpipes. Very loud. Any ideas?

    Central heating/hot water troubles

I have a 15 year old system, quite conventional (?) in a three bed house. A Potterton boiler, tank in the loft, a pump, three way valve and hot water tank in the airing cupboard etc. Last year I had a motorised three way valve replaced. More recently I changed the pump and, last week, the...

    Noisy Double Glazing

Hi. I had double glazing fitted to both floors of a semi, early last year. have a FENSA certificate and a 10 year "guarantee", but needless to say the company has now ceased trading. Most of my windows are unbelievably noisy when the wind blows, sounding like an off tune bagpipe player. They...

    GOLF AUTOMATIC

I appreciate your help and will try what yuo suggest over the next day or so. It may be a few days before the fault occurs. If it is indeed the signal not getting through to the pump, then what is the cure?

    GOLF AUTOMATIC

When it fires up, which it does easily, it stops after only two or three seconds, whatever I do. If I use the accelerator, then on starting it runs up to the relevant revs and then dies in the same way. It does not happen every day, maybe once or twice a week. Maybe just in the morning or maybe...

    GOLF AUTOMATIC

No response last time, but surely worth another try. I have bought aN "M" reg Mk11 Golf automatic. Ir runs beautifully and starts on the button, as it were, running on all cylinders. But it cuts out after literally one or two seconds. It then restarts immediately and does the same again. This...
