Hi, I have recently been having some problems with my roof which has caused me to spend more time than usual in the loft. It is a right mess and I would like to tidy it up, and make it easier to use for storage etc. My intention, if possible, is to board the floor using the green t&g floorboards...

Right so some more advise is required, I was up there again today poking around and have discovered yet more damp! Hooray. I think it's probably all part of the same problem so hopefully the roofer will make it nice and watertight. Anyway.. the next door neighbors have had a loft conversion done...

Thanks @datarebal , could you elaborate on the rafter trimmer? I'm not familiar with that term. Should I try and stuff that hanging bit of felt somewhere? Or just leave it as is so as not to disturb things? Cheers

When I asked about pictures he suggested he could go back up and take pictures to demonstrate what he was saying, but to be honest I didn't have much time and what he had said kind of tied in with what I could discern from being in the loft, tied in with what you had suggested in your previous...

Just had the roofer out (used the guy before and he did a decent job sorting out the mess someone else had made) and he reckons that a few slates need replacing and that the loft has nowhere near enough ventilation. The biggest revelation however is that both chimney stacks have bastardized...

I will try and get some yeah. It's funny you should mention the chimney flashing, basically the end of the ridge is like a hipped end if that makes sense? Kind of pyramid-esque? Pictures would help.. But yeah, when I had a chimney liner fitted I could see that a piece of flashing on the forward...

I will set to getting a roofer out asap! And try and get a look at the soffits over the weekend, from what I could see from the inside they seemed pretty solid but to be fair I couldn't really 'see' as much as I was poking at them with a bit of plastic piping.. A part of me wants to drag all...

So I just checked the insulation. It's very uneven, seemingly much thicker towards the edges of the loft? It isn't stuffed right up to the soffits though, as I ha initially suspected. The soffits have no ventilation in them, is this something that ought to be addressed? Fitting vents every few...

Also, other things of note. The damp seems worse on the right hand side when looking at it, which is also the side closer the to bathroom. (Although the house is quite long so the bathroom ceiling is still a good ten-fifteen feet from this point). Another thing is that it's almost directly above...
