    Caravan chassis rust

As others have said even the oldest caravans will usually have a strong chassis that will far outlast the flooring of the caravan. Some caravan floors have been known to "blow" in less than 5 years (The floors are plywood and unless perfectly made the ply layers can separate making the floor...

    Find Date of Manufacture

The only thing that will confirm the date that any vehicle was built is the chassis number which is on the VIN Plate (Vehicle Identity Plate) the manufacturing year is usually easy to identify but to identify the date any closer you will have to contact the vehicle maker or try a vehicle owners...

    40 years already.

Done my apprenticeship at the Luton Vauxhall Plant back in the 1970's so remember all of the Cavalier models being built and introduced. The garage I have used for my MOTs since I was 17 done the MOTs for all of the Vauxhall Heritage cars dating back to 1900 (The MOTs were done to confirm safety...

Car Radio: Anyone ever seen this before?

The pixels on the screen have gone, judging by the shape as others have said most likely caused by impact damage.

HELP RATS! Rats getting in around drain!

Get a bottle of Peppermint Oil off of E-Bay then soak 5 or 6 Cotton Balls with the oil and leave the Cotton Balls in areas where you know the rats use, repeat again after about a week and that should be the end of having rats. Apparently it is not safe to use the Peppermint Oil if you have cats.

Just a little bit of info, if You like Champion Spark Plugs then you can also use AC Delco Spark Plugs. The AC stands for Arthur Champion and they are in fact the same spark plug.

    Screw through gas pipe

This reminds me of the time my brother who was a tool-maker decided to play a trick on his foreman; he got a tobacco tin, cut a hole in the bottom large enough to put his finger through then lined the tin (and around his finger) with cotton wool and squirted tomato sauce around the area where...

    Death of democracy

If the Referendum is not enough to allow us to leave the EU how come a Referendum was enough for us to join ? Does that mean we are illegally members of the EU ? In which case we should remove ourselves from the EU immediately.

    Vauxhall Astra cutting out

It might sound daft but numerous electrical faults occur when the ignition coil pack is on the way out and once the coil pack is replaced the other problems disappear.

    Vauxhall Astra 2004 Semi-Auto Won't Start

Try replacing the ignition coil rail pack, this often causes starting problems and seems to fool the ECU into thinking there are gearbox problems. (The semi-automatic/tiptronic/easytronic is just a manual gearbox with an electronic gear selector bolted on top and that may be what confuses the ECU).

Does this symbol on fuel cap mean car is petrol engine

If it were a diesel then the vehicle name on the back would show a D to denote Diesel. For example Corsa CDi, if there is not a C then it is a petrol.

    WARNING - HMRC Rip-Off

The unfortunate thing about HMRC is that they work out of numerous offices throughout the country, they also have postal interceptors (Royal Mail Offices that collect all HMRC replies, irrespective of what office they are addressed to) but none of the offices communicate with each other. The...

    What Car is this ?

I can confirm it was built in 1903, because the world's oldest Vauxhall was sold at Bonhams in 2012 and that was registered in November 1903 and it's registration number was A 719, so A 718 would have been built and registered around the same date. The radiator shape is similar to the Talbot...

Some new cars have no spare wheel

First move away from a traditional spare wheel was the "Space Saver" skinny wheel, it didn't save space because they had to have a polystyrene base to fill the spare wheel well, but for the Car Manufacturers the "Space Saver" was cheaper and it reduced the vehicle weight and so slightly...

    Ford Mondeo

I'm not certain but I think the 2.2 uses a different gearbox, so check that out first. If that is the case then it would mean replacing both the engine and the gearbox, other than that there shouldn't be any real difference as the body shell and running gear is the same.
