    Wouldn't want to do anything dangerous. :wink: To an old shed, yes, with a single socket and tube light; would be handy to have working. All the helpful info has convinced me that a professional is definitely required. Good to know it's not simple/safe/easy fix, etc.

    EFLImpudence, understood on the voltage pen... it would be nice to see if there was any current running. Everything looks clean and secure however, so I suspect it's something else. Totally take your point though... will see about getting one. Both, I did wonder whether it had been rewired...
