That's really helpful, thanks. When you refer to the centre contact, do you mean the one that is pushed down flat? And the outer contact is the one standing up? And once I've pushed the wires through the holes, that's it? There's nothing to secure them in place? Thanks again.

I knocked my tripod lamp over while vacuuming (!) and it came apart. Now I have two wires poking out (one brown, one blue) and I'm not sure how to connect them back to the lamp fitting that came away (see pictures). Please advise! I don't want to electrocute myself :|
