Tall rad not working (has never worked well), suspect lockshield valve?

Checked last night - and the rad is now getting warm - similar to the other ones in the house, after getting the lockshield open approx 1 turn. I think the whole system needs a powerflush and a magnaclean. The boiler is a Potterton, quite old now but still working. There's no kettling so that...

Tall rad not working (has never worked well), suspect lockshield valve?

Also our daughter's place is built in 1995, smallish boiler for the size of the house, and NO MagnaClean or similar. Open vented system, likely to be full of old crap as well. Even if they don't change the boiler soon, I think they should get a MagnaClean fitted (not by me !!)

Tall rad not working (has never worked well), suspect lockshield valve?

Ouch. A good experiment for us to try. I read somewhere that they have fine internal holes. I wonder if it's got clogged up during or after the installation. The installation instructions for similar models do not suggest there is any flow direction that needs to be honoured. However they are...

Tall rad not working (has never worked well), suspect lockshield valve?

Thanks. Rad is Ximax Champion Duplex Vertical Designer Radiator, White (W)410mm (H)1800mm. Weird that the Danfoss PDF I linked to shows an anticlockwise motion, diagram bottom of page 2. It's unclear which action it relates to.

Tall rad not working (has never worked well), suspect lockshield valve?

See pics. This is in our daughter's house so the info I have is not complete. The previous rad was replaced during their kitchen refurb., approx 2 years ago The new vertical rad was supposed to be better than what was there before, but it isn't (currently) and has never worked properly. The...

    Pressurised hot water cylinder venting

Thank you. I found the procedure in the manual for the cylinder and followed it just now. It took in a fair amount of air so that's probably vanquished the dragon for a while.

    Pressurised hot water cylinder venting

You're correct. The inlet pressure is marked as 3.0 bar, but the relief valves are labelled as 8.0 bar and 10.0 bar. Model 200L Cyclone Air Indirect. Yes, the pump expels water in the tundish to the outside. I think it was the only option for routing the exhaust water.

    Pressurised hot water cylinder venting

We've got a ~10 months old Joule pressurised 200 litre hot water cylinder, replacing a 25 year old cylinder. It is protected with two pressure valves (3 bar I believe) that join via a "Y" shaped pipe then drain through a little "open" bit (a tundish?) down to a powerful pump that scoots water...

Is this good for a teak garden bench?

I should have explained why I'm asking. I've read somewhere that some teak oils can actually leach the goodness out of the wood. This stuff has Tung oil in it.

    Toilet cistern valve "thump"

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0051TQOTG?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title Another option is to email [email protected] and ask them to send you an HP restrictor. The new one gives a little "squeak" noise (only audible if you have the lid off), then a few drips, then stops.

    Toilet cistern valve "thump"

I did exactly as you suggested. Screwfix no longer stock it, but Amazon do. Fitted the high pressure restrictor and new valve top onto the existing riser tube. Fits perfectly and cured the thump.

    Toilet cistern valve "thump"

The valve is a bottom-entry Torbeck, like this: https://www.screwfix.com/p/torbeck-bottom-entry-fill-valve-1-2-/8120t We recently had our system changed from attic tank / gravity fed to mains pressure everywhere, which is apparently around 3 bar. The toilet fill valve shutoff was previously OK...

Slow weep from radiator TRV - pressure loss?

Will do - TRVs ordered. I'll also change one that isn't leaking but has a stuck pin (gentle pressure freed it a bit. but seemed worse than the others). May as well fix everything in one go.

Slow weep from radiator TRV - pressure loss?

Our system was recently converted to sealed/pressurised (Nov 2024). I've had one TRV leak, causing pressure loss. Replaced it and the pressure stayed for longer. I've seen it go from 1.2 bar down to 1.0 bar over the last three weeks. A significant amount of gurgling and air, mainly in one...

Remove supports no longer needed for attic cistern?

Tree? Luxury! We had an old muddy stick wi' a Mars bar wrapper for tinsel. And we each took turns to lick t' tiny bits of chocolate off. But we were 'appy!

Remove supports no longer needed for attic cistern?

Yes, it was pretty straightforward. There were nails horizontally into the trusses, but these knocked out easily with a few hammer taps, so I expect they were really just needed during construction, not load-bearing.

Remove supports no longer needed for attic cistern?

Removal went well, and reconstructing a raised floor with more insulation, level with what we already have. I reused the ply to make a filler strip down the side of the T&G.

Remove supports no longer needed for attic cistern?

The hole at the far end is far less exciting than a gun port (although that's a good idea!) It's a crawl-through to a lower roofline above a dual-aspect bedroom. This is as originally built - I think they designed it as a 4-bed house with an extension bolted on from the start.
