A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

I think that's the biggest problem - finding someone. I'm willing, now, to think about investing in a newer boiler to save the issues we have seen since moving in... and tbh we plan on being in this house for a good 10-15yrs min, so we would eventually recoup the boiler costs. I may investigate...

A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

Tripped... I don't know how to explain it. Basically there seems to be air in the pipes, it clanks a bit, often when the system is kettling, and then the boiler pilot light goes out and I have to press the reset button underneath it. I didn't know what else to call it; resets itself? Dies...

A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

Sorry for delayed reply. The pump that went in was a booster pump for the shower (my Grundfos pump remains intact), and HW has behaved since I bled the valve. Will close/open the gate valve tonight when home, thanks for the advice. Will look into the x400 towards the end of Feb and will let it...

    Pumps & Power Showers

I tried, I insisted, but this guy knew best, apparently. I believe it's a single. It was chosen over my choice of ST because it can do negative head, which apparently - despite discussions and measuring, we did need after all. As long as I have one working shower I'm not overly concerned at...

    Pumps & Power Showers

This is where I have the ability to get ranty. I suggested, as part of my wish list, that I wanted an ST Monsoon - i did my homework. Oh no no no, the fitter recommended this one and that was it. The power shower seems OK working as it is, - but I only tested it for a few minutes this afternoon...

    Pumps & Power Showers

Thanks Rob. You're down the road from me (I'm in East Ren), do you fancy helping me out by putting right the wrongs?!! I said from the start that I wanted the pump to feed only the hot feed to the bath taps and the shower. I was told repeatedly that it wouldn't matter if the pump fed the hot...

    Pumps & Power Showers

Back for another question. I've had a Salamander CT90 Bathroom Universal pump added into my airing cupboard as part of a main bathroom refit (pressure in the house on my gravity fed conventional heating system was woeful). The pump tees straight off of the hot water outlet from my cylinder and...

A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

Well, it looks like I owe some of you a drink. The immersion is off and has been for over 24h, to prove a point it's off in the fuse box! Hot water all present and correct this morning. However: a pump is supposed to be going onto the system today and I fear another drain down is needed... I...

A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

I looked in that tank earlier. The water is a bit brown but not mega-muddy, if there's a scale of such a thing. It's brown around the sides of the F&E tank. The water that comes out of the rads is clear, when I bleed them, and the water that dribbled out of the bleed valve earlier was clear...

A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

The water looks clear. Well, after fully opening that gate valve and bleeding as advised (only bled it to the dribble, didn't do a second bleed until it spurted) it appears that we have hot water again. I'm not convinced it's fully sorted (because i am a pessimist) but I haven't had the...

A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

I'll give it another go, thanks. It was higher; until the problem began last week - we had a new upright rad put in as part of the bathroom, and the top of that rad is now higher than the top of the HW cylinder.

A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

I was being very careful and letting the air out v slowly - it didn't come out with any force; just a small amount bubbled up and dribbled down the pipe, so I tightened the valve back up again.

A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

Super, thanks. I think I am beginning to conclude the same as you. Just found the key and finished bleeding that valve - just a little bit of air in it. Out of interest - I'm in Scotland (so not London prices) - what's a ballpark on how much these valves are to replace, please? Heating and HW...

A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

Yes - everything springs to life and sounds pretty normal - pump operates, things get hot under there.... then the rads get hot but no HW comes from the taps (tested with an hour of running HW only this morning). I'll test the no1 bleed bit later on as I can't find my rad key at the moment...

A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

This is really helpful, thanks all for taking the time to reply. I'm asking so that when someone eventually turns up to check it, I'm not being sold up the swanny with a "oh you need X Y and Z". I think it's pointing to the Honeywell being stuck and probably needing to be replaced, but I want to...

A classic with a twist - no HW, CH OK, conventional boiler

Thanks Tony, there are a lot of scaremongering stories out there. Please don't assume that because I have had a new bathroom fitted I'm made of money; it was a gift (but you weren't to know that) from well-meaning family. Post edited further up with pictures.
