Earth wire going into bell transformer, is this ok?

Hi everyone, thank you for all your feedback. Regarding the exposed 240v wire, there is a screwed on cover which I removed to take the photo (I did turn off power beforehand). Please see the attached photo with it in place - I assume that is safe. The bell wires are going into 1 and 3 for 8v...

Earth wire going into bell transformer, is this ok?

I want to install Nest Hello doorbell and looking at my current setup there's the earth wire going from the power supply below the transformer into the top between the bell cables. Is that ok? When i get a new transformer would I do the same or should the earth wire go somewhere else? Pic...

What connector for female tap flexi to compression nut?

Bought a new basin mixer tap, thought it would be straight forward to diy, all the parts were there. Disconnected the old flex pipe from the supply and the end of the flexi has male threads connecting into a nut and olive on the supply. Please could you tell me what I should use to make the...

Large pipe in hole behind skirting board

It doesn't bridge floors. The pipe go outwards towards the pavement. In fact!! The outside step is 24 inches wide and as I mentioned in the previous post the pipe is about 24 inches long. So by what you suggest about cross ventilation, maybe the pipe was to extend air flow from the step to...

Large pipe in hole behind skirting board

Hi John, Just measured, it is four inches internally, it runs horizontally. I don't have a long sturdy wire to hand, but I poked a 100cm metal ruler down it and it went it about 60cm / 24 inches before it hit something low down (I'm not sure if the ruler was travelling through the centre of the...

Large pipe in hole behind skirting board

Hi, I've removed skirting boards from hallway to replace them. Behind the skirting adjacent to the front door was a big hole where you could see below floor level, looking into it I see a 6" pipe with an air brick above it. There is dust and dirt at the base of the pipe and it is dry. From the...

Are my airbricks to close to ground?

Hi Ted and mattylad, thanks for your response. The house is 1930 but has solid walls. Last time I saw under the floor there was late last year and it seemed OK. I'm due to redo the floor there soon, so I can check under the floor again. At the moment the wall is not damp, but there may be...

Are my airbricks to close to ground?

The airbricks (2) at the front of the house are sightly above ground level. When it rains heavily it smells slightly musty in living room by the window (where the airbricks are). Wondering if rain is going under the house. if they're too low, what methods should be used to rectify it? Please see...

    Angled garden gate post advice

Thanks for the tips @sircerebus666 and @JohnD, I will replace both posts and use a hook and band hinge. If I use the v-cut method in a square post, what tool is best for that? A circ saw at 45 degrees? Sound like a tough one to brace the post properly in order to cut.

    Angled garden gate post advice

Hi, I need to replace the gate and post of the house moved into recently. The gate has to be at an angle from the house to the boundary fence. At the moment the gate is using a 75mm arris rails as gate posts, the post holding the hinge is solid but the one on the house is loose and only half...

Water leaking from white pipe going into radiator

He removed the valve from the radiator with only the white pipe connected, so was able to get more movement out of it. It would have been beyond my knowledge and experience to remove the valve, but now I know how it works, I can do this in the future.

Water leaking from white pipe going into radiator

The plumber came yesterday and after isolating the rad, simply pushed the white pipe further into the housing so that it stays in. He also bled it and made the drain hole easier to access. This also explains why I had slow pressure drop over the last few months. Thanks for the tips earlier...
