Agreed the wiring is a complete mess, I've uncovered plenty of surprises left for me by the previous owner over the past couple of years.

Bingo :-) We do have a little box attached to the cylinder, looks like this: http://www.draytoncontrols.co.uk/HTS3CylinderThermostats.aspx Does it not look like it's wired in?

    Heating issue

Guys... It's fixed! See if you can spot what went wrong :-) https://goo.gl/photos/kN9QFkKfbu7YmSnw5 I can only imagine the sparkies dislodged it whilst checking out the rest of the circuit. On a side note, what on earth is the bit of garden twine doing there? filler? I have a cylinder, would...

    Heating issue

Thanks that's helpful, this is starting to make a small amount of sense to me... I've taken a photo of my junction box: https://goo.gl/photos/G9FLxdyV847QfpeR7 I've labeled the wires coming in to the box 1. Valve (certain) 2. Thermostat (i think) 3. Power supply (?) 4. Pump (certain) 5...

    Heating issue

Hi, I've just checked with a multimeter, nothing between live and neutral, 240v between live and earth. It's looking like the neutral is indeed the issue. What is the next step to fixing it? I'm pretty certain it'll be a loose connection in relation to the electricians being over.

Right that's obviously the wrong term... Basically there was a poor connection in the neutral circuit which the sparkies traced down to between two plug sockets, in the kitchen and bedroom. They chased a new wire between them to fix it. Could they have inadvertently damaged the connection to the...

    Heating issue

Well, interestingly we've had electricians round recently. As part of the work they did they checked the circuit and noted a neutral leakage which they fixed in another part of the house (replaced a wire between two sockets). Could they have somehow dislodged the neutral whilst testing?

    Heating issue

Would me being able to bridge between the live and call to heat and trigger the circuit suggest that it's working? I don't have a mains tester unfortunately... Photos of the upstairs, i suspect the thermostat connects into the junction box which the actuator is wired in to...

    Heating issue

Hi, I can get a photo if needed, I basically switched old for new and didn't change the wiring at all. I'd figured that the front unit might have given up the ghost and replaced the back plate whilst i was at it.
