    What screws for specific task.

Hi guys, I have been given the job of putting three bathroom cabinets up in a family home. The walls are plastered on top of brick. The cabinets are heavy, and the supplied fixings look a little underwhelming to me - just 2 4x30mm screws. I'd like to use a bigger screw, but the 4mm...

    Shower grab rail ideas

Hi all, looking for some ideas. A family friend has asked me to look at putting some kind of handrail in their walk-in shower. They want the rail to start just before you go into the shower and it needs to run horizontally to the end. So the total length needs to be around 5'. There doesn't...

    Decent cable,pipe finder.

Thanks guys, seems even Walabot has its bad reviews. Upshot = nothing works and we have to stick to guesswork. Pretty ridiculous way of working though, considering its the 21st century. :-(

    Painting an old shed

Guys, thank you so much for your educated and interesting feedback. I have an issue though: - Budget. It's damned low. That Sandolin stuff alone - for 5 litres is around £80.00. She can't afford it, and I'm not paying for it! So, if I sand it to get a key, could I then use some other oil...

    Painting an old shed

Hi all. Been asked to repair and paint an elderly friend of the families shed. Years since it's been done and I'm not sure what was used before to paint it, but it looks like it may be oil based? (see attached) peeling away etc. Not sure that the standard 'fence' paint stuff will cover it? Any...

    Damaged screw removers

That's a blast from the past. My old boss - around 25 years ago- used to use the word 'Greek' as a derogatory term. "Dave is late again today boss" .. .."YEAH, the bloody Greek". ... "Whoever fixed that box made a right mess of it boss" ..."Must have been a Greek", etc. Never understood...

Eddie, bits received with gratitude. Thank you. I will stick them in my toolbox and use if/when problem arises again. Although - according to this thread - the success I may have, is anybody's guess.

    Damaged screw removers

Guys, some great tips there thanks. Eddie, I would still love the bits if you can locate them please? Worth keeping in my kit for other jobs, and I will - at least - pay for postage.

    Damaged screw removers

Timber John. Fence work. Some idiot put a fence around a field and most of the screws have been rounded off. Replacing it is a nightmare.

    Damaged screw removers

Hi guys, looking for recommendations really. After the second job recently where I spent far too much time removing damaged headed screws, I need to get a proper tool for the job. Or at least some left-handed drill bits. Checking reviews on damaged screw removers, on Amazon and Screwfix, seems...

    Microwave on to timber wall?

Really? You mean my original (preferred) microwave stand as posted on here? You feel it will be ok screwed onto a stud? I've not bought it yet, but sounds like it may be ok.

    Decking posts, retro fitting?

Hi guys, someone knocked up this patio for us .. but didn't bother adding any fencing! I now need to retro fit the posts -and then the spindles later. Please take a look at the pic here. The decking is sat on a brick skirt, with wooden joists in the middle. Is there any way to fit the posts...
