Hi,
Does anyone have an awning blind for a roof window which is relitavely inaccessible?
We are considering getting them in our extension but they won't be that accessible. Are they the kind of things you put in place for the summer months and then leave there? Do you find they are effective...
Hi all,
We have spoken briefly to our electrician and plumber and tried to cost up various options.
We are now leaning either electricity with one air pump and one radiator (it only has two rooms), electric shower and instant water heaters for sink.
Or, pipe gas down there and put in boiler...
Thanks again everyone - more food for thought. We have a contact who works with insulated pipe so we are going to contact him. We were thinking similar in terms of zoning valve and separate circuits for radiators and shower/sinks. It's a neat solution but the pipe may be too expensive to justify...
Brilliant thanks Stem - some really useful information there. Sadly I don't think an economy rate will work for us as we are a family of 5 in the main house and all about during the day all the time (kids v young and husband working from home). Really appreciate the air pump thoughts we had been...
Ah that looks fab but sadly after a year wrangle with the planning department we won't be allowed a hair out of place when it comes to the appearance of it!!
Thanks so much again everyone - this is proving really useful :)
We didn't realise about the load of an electric shower so will talk to our electrician about the cost and practicality of installing that.
We will also look into LPG tank and boiler which we hadn't previously considered.
Ground...
The fuse board is being upgraded as part of house refurb so our assumption was this would be done to whatever spec was needed. We are amateurs at this though!
All things in your list re the main house are gas apart from we are planning an induction hob in our new kitchen. Annexe will only have...
Thanks very much all this is great - food for thought :)
We think gas is out due to installation costs and having to buy a new boiler for the annexe, plus space is at a premium in the annexe.
Seems like the air con/heat pump idea might be worth exploring though. Does anyone know from...
Hi - I'm really sorry if this has been posted before but these forums are extensive!!
We are building an annexe in our back garden, about 20m away from the main house. Two rooms internal dimension total about 32m2. It will be made from a SIPs construction so hopefully very well insulated.
We...
PS - house and garden are also having a complete overhaul (it's a big project) so electrics / boiler etc are all going to be upgraded anyway and digging up the garden won't be a big issue...
Thanks very much everyone. Really appreciate these replies. We will be getting buildings regs drawings done now we have the planning permission so hopefully that will make things clearer. We have found it is a good idea to have a basic understanding ourselves of the issues involved though.
Yes...
Hello,
We just got planning permission for an annexe in our garden after a year battle with planning, hurray!
So now we are thinking of the practicalities.
The annexe will be over 30m away from the main house. The house connects to the mains sewer via a manhole located in a shared drive at...
