    Another assassination attempt on Trump

Hardly an assassination? Trump was at the White House (makes a change!) The attacker (?) was in Florida. He had a can of petrol and a shotgun so hardly “the mechanic”

What to Use to Repair 10p sized hole in Vinyl flooring

Do you have any spare material? Under a cupboard/bed? Or spare up the loft? You can cut matching patches if so. I always leave offcuts under the bath/kitchen units.

    Blocking up a garage window

A mate has lived in a house for probably 30 years where there is a bricked up window in the main room. There’s a narrow passageway on that side of the house that still has the window in it. We didn’t notice when he bought it, inside looks normal. It was a probate sale so no idea when it was...

    Water butt overflow

It wouldn’t be that hard to lay a low level pipe at a slight angle below the power socket, followed by a corner and a short piece (again at a slight angle) to a boss on the down pipe. I am assuming that the down pipe is concerted in. (It is in my house) Then at the water butt end either one of...

Attaching ply to concrete floor for rubber tiles

Not sure, but probably. Use a spade if removing the tiles. Be aware that old tiles could have small amounts of asbestos. I hope someone can chip in about using leveler over existing tiles.

    Wouldn’t self leveler be better?

    Plug tops / Plug caps?

I don’t remember when I started to use “plug top” but it’s mainly used by me when a long extension is being used. If I was up a ladder or around a corner, I’d say “pass me the plug top” to differentiate which end of a long extension I wanted. Speaking of which, does anyone call a 4 way/6 way a...

Certain tools - do I need them?

I am more of a DIY than trade, although I am lucky to have worked alongside a well equipped wood and metal workshop with high end tools. I do up old bikes so could take advantage of work but not take the mickey. So I also use LIDL/Aldi and because I go to autojumbles I pick up stuff like taps...

    Smell removal (bitumen) from teak

I’m using it as flooring, unsure quite what finish yet. Possibly polyurethane but more likely Bono flooring stuff. I can try the heat option as well. Once I had removed the bitumen and planed the blocks, I stored them in cardboard boxes, about 30-35 to a box, folded lids but not sealed, boxes...

    Smell removal (bitumen) from teak

I am trying an experiment. Several years ago I bought some reclaimed teak online, it was covered in the bitumen that held it down and was a bitch to remove, but I managed it. I have run it through a planer both sides and it’s been stored for over a year in cardboard boxes. I am getting ready...

Help with shed foundations in waterlogged ground

I have no experience of them but.. My shed sits on fence posts. It’s 30 years old or older These days they make posts from recycled plastic. Would this material be suitable to make a base from? It’s supposed to be akin to timber where fixings are concerned. But not subject to moisture.

How to carpet top step internal corner

Sometimes it’s good to know your strengths, and your weaknesses. years ago my parents used an old school carpet fitter to move the living room carpet after a house move. It was an Axminster, so good quality on a woven base and you couldn’t really see a join. Might be worth asking local fitters...

How to carpet top step internal corner

II am no carpet fitter, but could you continue the stair run up to the landing? And wrap the landing down where the RH step is? Joining the carpet (ideally sewn if possible) on the line of the top landing ?

Which way should these doors be hinged?

Stained glass? Etched style? Modern obscured is less “Granny” than a heavy frost. You could have a high level window or a roof light?

Which way should these doors be hinged?

I can see the point. Just putting it out there. One advantage of an opening out door is security as it’s harder to batter your way in. A well known bike club near me has only outward opening doors.
