Help! Chopping a roll of kraft paper

Is this to trim say, a six foot roll to become a five footer? I would guess that wrapping it tight with paper and tape followed by a chop saw would work

    Pre-Diabetes

I was prediabetic about 20 years ago. My brother was a skinny 18 year old when diagnosed as type one. From mid 40’s I went to type 2 on meds then also insulin. “A bunch of grapes” is a lot of sugar to a diabetic. 5 grapes would be my lot. I’ve never been “fat” at about 75kg 5’6 I am on a CGM...

Washing machine waste into soil pipe

Well, it looks foooked? You could gently cut it with a wire saw and plug the hole with an end cap and glue or make a patch with a similar piece of pipe (possibly heated to bend it) and glue in place holding with cable ties?

    Washing line on flat roof

Is the roof ok to walk on? Or is the access just fire escape? Really you should have handrails. Bear in mind that a parasol base will load the roof, possibly beyond it’s design.

Cutting up (and getting rid of) a cold water storage tank in the loft.

What advantage is there in removing it? Many people just leave the old tank up there, The space you gain is not worth the effort to cut it up.

    Cutting pergola post in situ

To cut a horizontal beam up there you’d need to rest it on two existing beams. Probably use an F clamp to hold it. While heavy, it’s possibly easier to bring it down? Safer? The only other option might be a scaff plank long enough to reach side to side, lashed on, and tumble the beam onto it...

    Loft insulation and boarding choices

What I did was make 8” strips from OSB in 8 ‘ lengths. Fitted 2x1 to each side top and bottom to create an I beam. these were then screwed down to the original loft beams and I used pre-made chipboard loft panels screwed in a brick bond. Obviously with insulation. No need for glue as it all...

House buying advice (internal garage door)

You could just soak up the cost/ ask for a suitable reduction and just fit a fire door. If the insurance company were ok with no fire door, get it in print. Garages are generally not as secure as houses, so an ordinary internal door is a weak spot.

    Daisy chaining very small loads.

I got a *******ing at work due to someone else daisy chaining onto a four way that I plugged in. I agree that daisychaining is not good practice and I have a bunch of 8 ways specifically to avoid it but people do like to find a socket and use it. HOWEVER In the chain were two camera chargers...

    Garage Strip light

Normally as said above. Could be off to the side? Hung on a drop like a chain or some studding? When I had strip lights I used one along the length towards the main door and one across the other end, forming a T. That lit the end where the bench and tools are.

Recorded DVDs won't play on new machine.

They are UV sensitive. Keeping them cool and dark helps Also using a decent brand. I used to run a company doing short runs, authoring dvds, making masters and duplicating hundreds. Almost zero returns.

Recorded DVDs won't play on new machine.

It’s possible that he used either DVD R plus or minus? Not all players like both (rare) recordable DVDs need to be finalised before removing them from the recorder. But they will play in the recorder and not others. They can be “saved” by going back to a similar machine. Later in the design spec...

How to get rusted-up bolts/screws free with restricted access - help!

If you have time on your side, a mixture of ATF and acetone is very good at rust removal and could release the nut and bolt. More likely to work by going under compared to inside. You might need to shorten the through bolt but a cordless drill and nut driver could spin the nut off once the rust...

    Potential asbestos downpipe & guttering

If on an estate, ask neighbours. Imho it could be asbestos cement. If you are happy to work at height you could do it yourself using common sense. Why remove it? Rules may have changed but my local dump took diy asbestos by appointment only. I had to double bag it in heavy polythene and tape...

Where can I get a replacement sink like this?

that’s pretty old I suspect? 70’s or 80’s? I doubt that there is a direct replacement available. It’s more common now to have bowls on top of units or underneath the hole. We had your type when I was a kid in the 70’s I also doubt that any chemical would simply remove it with zero manual input...
