Thanks, that's the second time I got that advice. So, I figured if I'm going to replace the trigger anyways, I may as well test my theory. And it was indeed like I thought, removing the MOSFET turned the trigger into an on/off trigger.

tl;dr Can I make a power drill trigger behave like an on/off switch? How? So, I'm DIYing myself a Sun Gun (links at the bottom). And for that I'm using a cordless drill without the motor. Now, since it's going to power a 12V, 50W halogen bulb, I don't want or need the trigger to be variable...
