Hi, I'm just about to lay a patio using sandstone flags. The area is 5m x 4m enclosed on three sides and originally it was a 4" thick concrete slab which I have taken up.
What I need to know is, do I need a sub base as the ground is very solid? Also do I need a sharp sand layer?
I will be...
Can someone tell me if I've calculated the amps the hot tub will be drawing at 26/27.
Hot tub has 1 x 0.5 hp circulation pump, 2 x 2 hp jet pumps and 1 x 3 kw heater. But I forgot to add two speakers and a few tiny led lights.
The electrician has given me paperwork signing it off so I suppose he...
Sorry EFL, or any other electrician. I am a born worrier. Could you explain ( in simple terms) why 4mm2 cable will be ok, as I have looked on various sites ( including this one) and all seem to state 6mm2 minimum for a 32amp hot tub. Thanks.
Hi, I've just had a cable put in for a hot tub. The electrician used 4mm armoured cable approx 20m from consumer unit to 32amp switch outside. The hot tub company states they require a 32 amp isolator switch with a (6mm) swa cable to go to the hot tub but the electrician says 4mm will be ok...
I know this answer is going to mean you won't see most of your decking any more however the other day I was working at clients house and they had covered their decking with a decent quality fake grass and it looked really quite effective.
Thanks again EFL. I think somewhere on the download instructions in says wire into a junction box so it must be ok to do what I've done.
New switch doesn't get hot by the way!
Yeah, EFL, I've now got a feeling it didn't come with a plug because when I was fitting the new switch yesterday I noticed the solid brass ends on the wires in the cable. Therefore if there had have been a plug it would have been a modern one that couldn't have been pulled apart. Also now I've...
Hello, OP here, as John and others have said, it isn't a fan heater it's a Stiebel Eltron 3 kW radiant wall heater, (no fan). As I've said previously I have now fitted the 20 amp fuseless switch. Have I, or have I not done the right thing?
Just fitted a new 20 amp switch.
You're right, the back of the fuse housing had melted. so much that I couldn't get the fuse out.
I really don't understand how this happens when the heater had a plug on it with a 13 amp fuse in it when it was new? Or is it just down to the quality or the fuse?
Cheers EFL, so you mean having a 20 amp unfused switch fitted should solve the problem then?
I'm assuming I'm not allowed to do this myself even though it's just swapping one switch for another?
Thanks EFL.
So that should sort it then? The odd thing is since I had the conservatory done I've had a new main consumer unit fitted and the electrician (a different one) had to check all the sockets/switches in the house to make sure everything was as it should be and he signed it off ok.
So do...
Cheers Winston.
I've just had look and there is no name on it. However there is a crack on the face between the red light and the switch. As it was only done 2 years ago I'm assuming it is a cheap one. My fault, the electrician probably did asked me if I wanted a certain make of switches/sockets...
Hi, new to the site.
After some advice please.
I had a new conservatory built 2 years ago and decided to have a 3kw wall heater fitted which is hard wired into a fused switch (13 amp) this is on a ring circuit which also has 4 double sockets (these mainly used for lamps and very occasionally my...
