    My extension & my neighbour

Those have been uppermost in my mind besides the structural impact on my wall.

    My extension & my neighbour

I think I'll raise it gently the next time we bump into each other and I'll ask him to illustrate more clearly what his plans are. But, any suggestions as to the gentlest way of saying I don't want you adding your structure to my wall?

    My extension & my neighbour

Do you know where I can access written evidence of this in case I need to present it to him?

What the significance of the 39 year time-span?

    My extension & my neighbour

So, to be categoric about the boundary line, I need to know the thickness of the party wall in the old part of the house?

    My extension & my neighbour

I've fixed the diagram - I'd originally inserted the chimney without specific location - I've now placed it in its accurate location since someone mentioned that it would have a bearing in ascertaining the boundary line. So the eaves would make the wall a party wall?

    My extension & my neighbour

Do you reckon that the centre-point of the chimney would satisfactorily indicate the boundary line? Maybe add 'parties' to that.

    My extension & my neighbour

The structural fixing to my wall is my major concern.

    My extension & my neighbour

The consensus is that, apart from the almost possibility of getting the project past planners and building control, he needs my permission to connect his joists to my wall. In terms of the wall, there's doubt as to whether it's a party wall or not with one contributor suggesting that the...

    My extension & my neighbour

Comrades, my next-door neighbour happened to mention that, maybe next year, he intends installing decking over his wee back yard and possible over his single-storey extension. He said he intends to connect his joists to my extension (23) on one side and to his extension (25) on the other side...

    Pipes, Joists & Floorboards

I've realised that the pipes are too close to the top of the joists to allow anything to be recessed. Another forum has suggested these https://www.screwfix.com/p/sabrefix-hand-nail-plate-galvanised-dx275-150mm-x-75mm-25-pack/69215 They're only 1mm thick - the forum didn't stipulate whether to...

    Pipes, Joists & Floorboards

Where would you get steel plate - what thickness? Creaks all the time - I'm partial to a bit of creaking. Is there such a ply that would resemble the patina of pine T&G boards? Wondering what I'd ask for locally.

    Pipes, Joists & Floorboards

Thanks very much, stealthwolf - I don't know how I made the Screwfix connection. I've hopefully amended the original correctly.

The joists run in the same direction on the entire floor. What you see in the landing is repeated in line right to the far end of the bedroom.

    Pipes, Joists & Floorboards

Many years ago, I put down T&G floorboards in the bedroom. I've ripped up the carpet in the landing to continue T&G into the landing. The problem is that, when I did the bedroom, I used a 190mm, plain board to avoid a joint over the pipes. It seemed a good idea at the time but, over time...

    Masonry Paint over Oil-based paint

I think I'll go with that - probably need to use wire wool to contend with the rough parts.

    Masonry Paint over Oil-based paint

I wish I could afford that.
