    Haha, if only it was that easy. The house is at the end of a cul-de-sac and has quite a bit of land to the side, and it's more about room layout than trying to gain a few measly feet.

    If you can get the architraves off in decent condition, pack behind by your paneling thickness, then re-fix them.

    Personally I would want the post and drill laying horizontally on a bench or board - with a bit of packing and side stops, you would have to set-up for the fist one, then simply repeat the process on the following posts. The one you suggested my be a bit flimsy and possibly difficult to 'seat'...

    Victorian end of terrace house - is it possible to remove the chimney stack and breasts from the gable end wall, or will it weaken it too much? I haven't bought the house yet, so apologies for limited pics. Thanks in advance.

    Depends on how much he quoted you to hang them - a self employed carpenter should be earning at least £30 per hour - how many hours did he quote for?
