    Small voltage on ground wire

I was using a multi-meter. I measured it relative to one of the other wires - live or neutral, it didn't matter, it gave the same reading. Live to neutral gave zero volts.

    Small voltage on ground wire

Hi I have just been changing some sockets in my conservatory. My consumer unit has two banks on it. This circuit was on a secondary bank (i.e. not the one with the main switch) and is protected by an RCD. I had the individual circuit turned off via it's breaker, but left the rest of the...

Toothless circular saw blade for foam Insulation

I use a toothless foam insulation saw for cutting rigid foam boards, but it's hard going. I did consider using a circular saw - but they create far too much dust. I then had a thought - do toothless circular saw blades exist? Turns out they do and specifically for this application. The...

    Bungalow Loft Conversion

We are attempting to do this very thing on our bungalow - but we are having great difficulty getting any trades to quote.

    Wall plate strapping - alternatives?

That's great thanks. If the existing wall plate is secured using either of those two methods - would we be able to comply with existing building regs if we adequately secured the new wall plate to the existing without strapping the new one? edit: Just been reading building regs approved...

    Wall plate strapping - alternatives?

Yes the new roof is significantly different. The entire roof is coming off and being replaced with a steeper one with gables (the current roof is hipped). The only part of the existing structure that will remain is the wall plate and ground floor ceiling joists.

    Wall plate strapping - alternatives?

Given the extent of the work we are having done - we will need a second wall plate affixed to the first and as such this work will need to comply with current building regs. The architect has advised that if the current wall plate is strapped sufficiently - then we can simply affix the new wall...

    Wall plate strapping - alternatives?

We are intending to have a new roof fitted to our 1950s bungalow - however I am unsure whether the existing wall plate is strapped sufficiently (or at all). I have taken a look in the loft - but cannot see the tops of any straps along the length of the wall plate (although admittedly it's hard...

New roof without touching existing ceiling

I wouldn't need to push the 'pole plate' between the rafters and the joists - as the existing roof along with the rafters are being removed. These section diagrams may better illustrate what I was getting at. The first diagram is the existing roof structure, the second on is how I would...

New roof without touching existing ceiling

We currently have a bungalow and intend to convert it into a dorma. We need to increase the pitch of the roof to accommodate this and this means new roof trusses - however we don't want to touch the downstairs ceilings - which leaves us with a dilema. How do we seat the new roof trusses on the...
