Moving an ashlar stud wall in loft conversion

After poking around a bit, it is built on top of an RSJ. However, there’s no purlin involved. There are uprights between the rafters and the RSJ. I think the RSJ is there to support the floor more than the rafters and stud wall. We’ll be stripping it back further so will see before anything is...

Relocating ashlar / stud wall in loft conversion

I have an existing stud wall as part of a historic loft conversion. The plan is to move it back further to increase the room space, insulate and turn it into cupboards rather than loft space. As far as I can tell this wouldn’t require planning or building control. Is this the case?

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

Isn’t that only if it’s unfused?

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

Do you mean RCD FCU? (Genuine question). As per my original diagram.

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

Sounds sensible. I can get the enclosure fitted in line then get a pro to complete the actual wiring. Thanks for the suggestion.

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

This was my thoughts. It’s not a new concealed cable, it’s the existing one. The entire run to the shed is as it was, but I’m happy to make improvements where I can and have a pro do it. I just want to avoid running a new cable if possible, which I believed was ok if you’re not creating a new...

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

Just going back to the initial problem. This is not a new circuit, this is an existing installation where the intention was to replace the old wiring and sockets like for like, and if possible, add RCD protection and an external socket. By the sounds of it I think the easiest and most compliant...

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

Ok. So a new CU would add RCD protection. Does that still mean a secondary RCD is required for the shed mains radial so that I can run an external socket? Or would that now mean the 13a fused spur from the house is sufficient?

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

So If I can’t add an RCD to the shed because the main board isn’t RCD protected, I can’t add an external socket? Or are you saying now that I can add an RCD in the shed to protect the external socket only (that’s the only new socket), and that doesn’t require an RCD protected main board?

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

In which case it sounds more sensible if I forget the RCD, leave in place as is and at least add an isolator switch at the shed end. I actually wanted an exterior socket. Is it possible to add this without an RCD? It would be via 20mm conduit, directly into the back of an IP66 rated double...

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

It's not rented, but of course I want to be safe. I don't seem to have much luck getting competent people in or being able to find them. I've found someone who seems sensible now. Just wanted to make sure that my proposed plan is sensible and safe, then I can get the conduit and sockets run for...

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

Just checked and no it does not appear to. There's an RCD for a macerator on the same ring though.

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

I currently have a 13A fused spur that supplies power to my shed. This would have been done at a time that predates current standards, and as I've now replaced the shed (but kept the existing supply), I'd like to add some sockets and modernise it where I can without having to run a new supply...

Twin socket and lighting from spur?

Perhaps the lighting is not on a ring, but it is on it's own fuse on the consumer unit. Either way, the sockets are on their own ring which is separate to the lighting. So the spur I ran is nothing to do with the lighting.

Twin socket and lighting from spur?

It's la ring. Loft extension on a Victorian terrace. The upstairs and loft extension mains are on their own mains ring from the consumer unit. Lighting is on its own ring from the consumer unit.

Twin socket and lighting from spur?

Great thanks for confirming! I thought the junction box seemed more sensible than a double spur but I guess both are protected by the same 13a fuse so little difference.

Twin socket and lighting from spur?

Ended up doing it with a junction box after the 13a fcu. One to the socket, one to a 3a fcu for the light. Is that not correct?

Twin socket and lighting from spur?

I assume the above is correct in that case?

Twin socket and lighting from spur?

Ok. This is what I believed so... Double socket --> 13a FCU --> Junction box --> double socket --> 3a FCU --> switch --> lighting socket The 3a fcu is coming from the junction box there, not another spur from the second double socket! ??
